Abolish, prosecute, imprison forever

It is absolutely essential that Democratic decision-makers be made to understand that "Abolish ICE" is the one and only acceptable position for them to take on the matter.

It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.

I love Computer on a neurological deep level and still I know this to be true as fully as I know Jesus Christ is raised. I can't "know" any harder than that.

I don't know how we get out of this.

one of the world-bending and epoch-changing elements that came from photography and moving film was the surprising and total capture of “life” in a camera, compared to art or theater— even the background tree leaves quiver!— and it changed how we all think. Computer may have broken the trust.

The fact that protests now feature people who don’t normally have to worry about what might happen to them in an adverse encounter with security forces is a HUGE DEAL.

It means that the “real” victims don’t have to suffer alone. It means that some people care about something more than themselves
kevinmkruse.bsky.social
Someone in my mentions is upset because these people haven’t suffered the worst at ICE’s hands and therefore they shouldn’t be praised for being out on the streets?

Yeah, no. To push back on these people we need everyone — especially those with relative privilege — to get up and get involved.

(please don’t scold me, I think I know what I’m saying, and it’s relative effectiveness in the current moment) I still think the median move for all of us is to teach people in our lives to be suspicious of what we see on a screen

i would not be surprised if business types, particular family business tyrants, are starting to sweat things as their cravings for ~labor discipline ~ have given way to fears of labor shortage

It's been really, really nice seeing the Catholic social justice tradition in the US feel like it's empowered to spread its wings again without risking censure after a long time of being suppressed by US Catholic leadership, and it's exactly what I was hoping for from Pope Bob.

Please share a weird animal fact. Or a lesser-known animal fact.

FACT: Coyotes climb trees. (Coyote Ethos: “Never tell me the odds.”)

Your turn!

The ability to "be natural" in front of, let alone toward, a camera lens is a freakish artificial skill and the demand for it almost certainly has left scammers and sociopaths overrepresented in political leadership; probably not great that we've now organized everyday society around it too

It's a sign of how many people (and journalists) live inside a media-created alternate reality that skill in the style of televised public performance associated with Hollywood actors is considered equivalent to 'authenticity'
brendannyhan.bsky.social
This is an obsession of mine - a huge pathology of the press is coverage suggesting that politicians who are less skilled performers are somehow less "authentic"

Writing something about ICE and sweet Jesus it is so incredibly dark what they are doing to these cities. We have all seen the videos, but when you wade into the details of their actions, it is extraordinarily bleak.

"Your new moons and your appointed festivals
my soul hates;
they have become a burden to me;
I am weary of bearing them.
When you stretch out your hands,
I will hide my eyes from you;
even though you make many prayers,
I will not listen;
your hands are full of blood."

The Chicago Brown Line Western platform, looking West, at sunset
A large brick building to the left, with heavy white lines where support girders are. The building looms high, topped by grey cell tower equipment. Below it to the right, rails stretch away into a tree line. Stretching from the building is a close bunch of wires, touching a thin sliver of wooden platform, including the overhead lights, at the lower right corner. Above it all, mostly parallel to the wire, puffy clouds in thin lines, between which shows dusky blue twilight sky, tinged with weak yellow.

Another hellish Saturday in Chicago with (camp)fires and people wielding (golf) clubs and (croquet) mallets. #Chicago #JacksonPark #PromontoryPoint
A group of people gathered around a circular stone fire pit on a grassy shore next to a large body of water at dusk. The fire is glowing in the pit, and the scene is framed by several large trees under a cloudy sky.
A wide, green golf course fairway on a sunny day, with two golf carts visible on the grass. A line of dense trees stands in the background under a clear blue sky.
A view through the leafy branches of a large tree showing four people standing on a green behind a black metal fence on a sunny day playing croquet.
A group of people gathered around a small bonfire on a grassy bank at dusk. They are silhouetted against a purple and orange sunset sky, with the silhouette of a city skyline, including a large domed building, visible across a body of water in the background.
