Overheard train chat between two tough-looking youths:

Youth one: “I got déjà vu, man. I saw this dog and felt like I’d seen it before.”

Youth two: “That’s not déjà vu. You just saw a dog twice.”

Yeah, there's an enormous cost to the economy of just throwing all working-age people and children under the bus. But the government does not care.
griffinkate.bsky.social
The cost isn't the only barrier. Dunno if you've been following my saga but it's taken literally weeks to get a private Covid jab booked. Pharmacies are focused on delivering the NHS jabs and don't have the resources for the rest of us.

I like how the news will be like “while the President claiming Portland was ruled by a giant skeleton named Mr Nibbles is not strictly true, it does speak to the anxiety of many Americans”

If someone else makes you food, eat the bloody food. It's rude not to

If you were offered food that you did not like, for reasons unrelated to allergies or dietary restrictions, would you eat it?

Eat it all: 5%
Eat some of it: 22%
Refuse it with an excuse: 11%
Refuse it and say why: 57%

TFW your council comms on something are really unclear and a teensy bit shady so you do a whole-arse FOI request just to get a straight answer...and the response to the FOI request is unclear and a bit shady 🤦‍♂️

Can you say that again but much more high-pitched and with a recorder accompaniment?

See, this is why I've had a total sense of humour bypass about Americans making any kind of joke about British politics, food, culture, looks, anything. Your president is dictating what laws we have, what statements we can make, what jobs individuals can hold. This isn't joshing between peers.

This is so damn scary. The book claimed that Jeffrey Epstein was the one who introduced Donald and Melania. Now the CEO of Harper UK is out.

In other news Charlie Redmayne, the long serving CEO of HC in the UK, resigned yesterday.

That must have been such a scary time for you. Glad she is recovering.

Fucking winter. Please please please prioritise ventilation in crowded spaces. Be the one who opens the window. And if you possibly can, please stay at home if you have 'just a cold'

#UKHSAVirusWatch is back, a summary of our weekly winter surveillance report .🦠🧵
This week's data shows an increase in COVID-19 activity, which is circulating at medium levels. Flu activity has also increased, particularly in those aged 15 to 24, but remains at baseline levels.
Graph showing COVID-19 positive tests rising steadily from spring 2025 after a low in early 2025. Data from October 2024 to October 2025, England only. Graph showing flu-positive tests peaking sharply in winter 2024–25 before declining and then beginning to rise again in autumn 2025. Data from October 2024 to October 2025, England only. The one time I caught Covid, I was healthy and 3x vaxxed. I was really poorly for maybe a week and not well enough to work for several weeks. Lost confidence because of brain-fog, lost my sense of taste, didn't exercise for months. I wouldn't even call that Long Covid but it was bad enough!
griffinkate.bsky.social
I'm sceptical about this because I just can't see the data. We don't have a test for Long Covid, just a diagnosis of exclusion. We don't have enough data on the risk factors or how the hell to avoid an infection turning into a disability, beyond resting and hoping for the best.

Went to my local on a balmy summer night only to find we couldn't sit in the beer garden because "we've already put all the chairs on the tables". It wasn't even 9pm!

Good to see the data on hospitalisations avoided but I'm not worried about personally ending up in hospital. I'm worried about a) spreading it to vulnerable people and b) becoming long-term disabled with Long Covid. That's a harder risk to measure and I'm pretty sure cases are underreported.
