People freaking out over the Chat-fishing dating-app article seem to miss that this is the *whole point* of ChatGPT and similar generative AI: writing as though you’re something other than you are. The whole idea is deception. Writing like a pro, like a lawyer etc, when you’re too lazy to be one.

The willingness of mainstream America to accept authoritarian rule (as long as it’s by an American tyrant) has always been under-priced, but I do wonder if even those who willingly embrace it may draw the line at scenes of beloved childhood characters being beaten, gassed and shot in the streets.

Ironically, IIRC it was said that the owner at the time smuggled rather a lot of tax past HMRC and was press-ganged into fleeing to climates warmer in weather but less hot for them.
