Sci-fi sketchbook characters and misc designs. India ink and watercolor.
Of note: head designs for an older woman with a thin, lined face and purple and pink mohawk. A squat, stubby winged vehicle that resembles some sort of bottom dwelling prehistoric fish, a human-shaped robot with a single lens eye, a 4-wheeled all terrain dune buggy with closed cockpit and baggage and supplies strapped on top.

Cartoonists know the conversation that happened when creating this cover.

“Hey do you think this reads as the Flash being turned into a puppet?”

“I don’t know. They might think he’s a robot? What if you made Flash say ‘oh no! I’m a puppet!’”

“Wait, I’ve got a better idea.”

Every comic cover since has been trying and failing to reach the heights glimpsed by this Carmine Infantino cover for Flash #133 in 1962. You may not like it but this is what peak performance looks like
Flash being turned into a puppet while thinking "I've got the strangest feeling I'm being turned into a PUPPET!". FUN FACT: it is impossible to see this cover and not want to see more

Hey y'all! I'm officially announcing my new Webcomic

Chicken Legs!
a young witch, Mariska Morevna, striking it out on her own trying to prove herself to her imposing family
chickenlegs.co

Launching OCT 31
comic cover with the title "Chicken Legs" at the top of the page imposed over the lower half of a very large chicken standing on a field. A young unimpressed girl stands at the chickens feet. She glares up at the camera. She's white with brown curly hair pulled back from her face in a messy ponytail and small pomp. She is wearing a dark purple dress with a light blue belt and white collared shirt underneath and holding a green potion in a round flask in her clinched fist. She has wooden legs with large round knees and is wearing black boots with socks.

"The apparitions are getting worse. The air in the vaults feels like a thin curtain that could be ripped away at any moment. I do not know what door I opened in search of the afterlife, but I pray to all the gods it isn't the one our souls go to in the end."

A quick one for the spookiest of seasons
Pen and ink illustration depicting a darkened doorway in a stone wall. A robed scholar scrambles away from the doorway in a panic, having dropped his writing implements, as a monstrous, glowing apparition manifests in the darkness beyond. At first glance, it appears vaguely humanoid, but has the suggestion of three heads, many mouths, and an indeterminate number of limbs.

Day 283: The final installment of this mini-arc (for now) is dressed up in the style of my boy Charles Schulz!
2-panel comic drawn in the style of Peanuts comic creator Charles Schulz (my fellow Minnesotan), with my spouse and I styled similarly to Charlie Brown and Lucy respectively, but my spouse is wearing a hawaiian print shirt, square glasses and has a full head of dark, curly hair and I have round glasses and longer dark hair. The caption above the comic says "Dressing my comic up as other comics (Pt. 10)"
Both panels show us sitting at the window of our house and looking outside; panel 1 shows my spouse with their hands in the air, saying "So, now that we stopped that killer squash vine and fixed our house, what did we learn?"
In panel 1, I reply "Not a lot!" and hold one finger in the air; my spouse looks defeated.
Beneath the comic is my signature (Kat Baumann), today's date (10-10-2025) and the time I spent drawing this (50 minutes)

I’ve never seen this before! An *inward-indicating* word-balloon tail (that’s the speaker’s right arm descending below the word balloon).

FASCINATING! Does this tail technique have a name? Have folks seen it used elsewhere?? I have so many questions!!! (From HIRAYASUMI, book 3, pg 37)

In less sad news I had a little time to draw a mini (4X5) poster for episode 33 of the Granada Sherlock Holmes starring Jeremy Brett: The master blackmailer! This episode has great elements but it’s all over the place and doesn’t quite land. Still worth celebrating.
Black and white pen and ink drawing depicting aspects of the Granada Sherlock Holmes series episode “the master blackmailer”

October art challenge Day 2: Mummy
Since yōkai prompts aren’t daily, I’ll be borrowing #creatober2025 promots (created by Pelidraws on IG) on days I’m not drawing a yōkai. That means I won’t be able to draw everything on this list, but if I can stick two prompts in one drawing I’ll do that!
