In less sad news I had a little time to draw a mini (4X5) poster for episode 33 of the Granada Sherlock Holmes starring Jeremy Brett: The master blackmailer! This episode has great elements but it’s all over the place and doesn’t quite land. Still worth celebrating.

We have to say goodbye to our cat, Meshuggah today and it super sucks. We’ve had her for 18 years and I’m really going to miss her. She’s shutting down & it’s tragic to see but she’s as sweet as she’s always been. She is a wonderful girl and I’ll have nothing but great memories of our life with her.
A beautiful long haired tortie named Meshuggah lays on a white blanket.

Jim Lee openly disparaging AI in no way guarantees anything, no one knows what the future of AI is and no one knows who will be in charge at DC Comics down the line. But I think it's important that a popular artist publicly shot AI down. Fans and artists ignorant of or using AI need to hear this.

These are excellent priorities and we get all of this.

A lot of people think the sole reason to boycott a company is to manipulate it to change. While that's valid, it's okay to not support a company because you dislike them while knowing that your boycott probably won't affect their finances. I'm not doing it to hurt them, it's for my own integrity.

My poster for the official JAWS 50th Anniversary art show~The exhibit opens tonight at Art Alliance of Monmouth County in Red Bank, NJ 🦈
A faux retro Taiwanese movie poster of JAWS (1975) all text is in Traditional Chinese. The poster depicts a famous scene of Mrs. Kitner slapping Chief Brody, telling him that her boy is dead. Behind Brody are Mayor Vaughn and Dr. Hooper all look sad and ashamed, heads hanging low. Behind Mrs. Kitner is the funeral director reaching out for Mrs. Kitner, getting ready to take her away from the scene. Mrs. Kitner is dressing all in black. Skirt, blazer, heels, and a hat with a veil. The veil and skirt blowing in the wind. Chief Brody wears glasses, a blue Amity Police jacket, brown shoes, and khakis. His head is low and turned away from the viewer after being slapped. He is looking away from the viewer in shame. Vaughn is wearing a striped blazer with a pink shirt, brown shoes, and dark blue slacks. Hooper is wearing a beanie, glasses, denim jacket, denim pants, and converse shoes. The funeral director wears a fedora, glasses and all black suit. In the background is the tiger shark they mistook for the great white shark, strung up on a hook and rope, and were prematurely celebrating its capture. Further into the background all the townspeople look equally ashamed for the death of the Kitner boy and their now embarrassing celebration.

I do often wish there was a “hug your son” button but it can be an interesting experience to walk in the shoes of an emotionally repressed walking tank for a little bit.

Here’s a process video for my God Of War fan art. Atreus changes the most; I realized he was holding the bow incorrectly (based on how the character uses it.) the world serpent scales were tough too.

I’ve reached a point in God Of War where my viking son is being a real jerk to everybody. I didn’t know this would be a tween-parenting simulator. It’s amazing. Here’s some fan art by me :)
A black and white drawing of Kratos and his son walking away from a boat with the world serpent far in the background.

I’m guessing it’s all building to something amazing? The whole game has been one astounding artistic choice after another. It’s been genuinely fun since the beginning.

It disappointed me so much when he started being mean to everyone and disrespected his own mom but it tracks given the revelation he had and his age. It’s just hard to be patient and I experienced it with real kids as a teacher; these folks got it perfect.

Legend has it that "Sleepy Hollow" costume designer, Colleen Atwood was unable to find existing fabric with the right striped pattern she envisioned for this incredible dress (worn by the incomparable Christina Ricci as Katrina Van Tassel), so she created the stripes on white fabric BY HAND.

P.S. If you pick up the BEASTS OF BURDEN OMNIBUS you can shelve it next to the NERD INFERNO OMNIBUS next year. That's 1200 pages of sublime and ridiculous comics (the sublime c/o of @thejillthompson.bsky.social @benjamindewey.bsky.social and others). Ridiculous c/o me.

I love seeing your joy & excitement. Makes me want to play too! I dressed up as wolverine, as a kid, for a parade (brown & yellow costume) and people kept pointing and saying "look at that little Freddy Kruger." Took the wind out of my lil' sails. Turns out I just had to wait 35 yrs for vindication
benjamindewey.bsky.social
Thanks! It's nice because I really only play after I'm off duty so it's a perfect little wind-down that's just for me :)
benjamindewey.bsky.social
I'm certain I'll have to at this point! I get to play it in hour long intervals while my baby is asleep at night and before I get too tired. I play it with headphones so the sound is really engrossing. The sound (alone) of the world serpent really stuck with me.
benjamindewey.bsky.social
It’s worth it for this game all by itself. I promise.
benjamindewey.bsky.social
Exactly! I keep wanting there to be a “hug your son” prompt but I assume it’s building to that :)
benjamindewey.bsky.social
Yes! It’s also so beautiful and the combat is a blast. I also can’t believe how good it is.

As usual I am 7-10 years behind with videogames and have just now discovered “God Of War”

Holy shit. I thought it was just a game about an angry guy with an axe (it is) but it’s also about fathers and sons learning to trust each other while swimming in an ocean of grief. I’m astounded.
