Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

It has put orgs and people who work with unhoused people on the back foot for sure! The right has reframed the way a lot of people look at homelessness and not at all in a good way.

It is going to take time and real work with people in our communities to begin to undo those perceptions.

Well, yes I do think that homelessness and drug policy discourse over the past few years has been under a sustained attack from billionaire funded disinfo PR and political operatives to change public opinion and they’ve been very successful with that.

This has always been part of the GOP playbook: Downplay incidents of right-wing violence, and then repurpose them as supposed acts of leftist terrorism for public consumption. They first did this in 2020.

Bondi: "We've been living through a horrific cycle of political violence in this country ... night after night antifa wrecks havoc on the streets of our cities. In Minnesota, a gunman murdered a state lawmaker and her husband."

I think growing up in the shadow of that plant was a part of why he wanted to get out of town. He didn’t want to end up working there. Too bad for the rest of us he became a right wing propagandist!

He’s not gonna say anything about workers the union says are being trafficked into that plant. smh

This is Michael Shellenberger’s hometown and the JBS meat packing plant has been Greeley’s biggest employer since 2007. The beef processing plant has been central to Greeley's economy and employment for many decades, dating back to when it was owned by Monfort, Inc.

Hundreds of Haitians came to Greeley, Colorado, looking for a place to stay and a good job at JBS, the largest meat producer in the world.

Instead, they found squalid housing and an unsafe workplace.

Now, they’re being deported.
Haitian immigrants went to Colorado for the promise of jobs. What they found is being called human trafficking.

Bari Weiss had Seneca Scott debate for the FP. That’s more her style. He took the most reactionary position possible & still lost despite, the debate audience being rigged because tickets were made available to FP subscribers first & therefore made up the vast majority of the voting audience. 😂

That said, I think it is a matter of basic respect and human dignity to be conscious about using words that reflect how people experiencing a lack of housing see themselves.

I was forced to endure sleeping in a tent as a teen fleeing a parent who had been convicted of child abuse against me.

I prefer to use the term unhoused because a house is what I was lacking. I was “home” already in the neighborhood and hometown I had grown up in. I had just become unhoused.

It really can't be said enough: the goal of the "anti-woke" movement was always to destroy social norms against bigotry. And it worked. And there's a whole lot of purportedly "left" thinkers & commentators who helped it -- indeed, it couldn't have been done without them.

They should feel bad.

News: Bari Weiss just sent a memo to staffers at CBS News asking them to produce a memo explaining "how you spend your working hours—and ideally, what you've made (or are making) that you're most proud of."

One CBS News staffer puts it like this to me: "We just got Elon Musked."
