empathy makes the oppressed see one another as allies instead of rivals. empathy grants moral legitimacy to those the system declares subhuman. empathy insists: “the rules are wrong if the rules hurt the innocent.”

empathy is the highest form of intelligence because it is the only one that can consciously choose not to harm. a supercomputer can calculate; a genius can rationalize atrocity. only empathy can look at all available outcomes and say: “i do not accept that suffering is inevitable.”

So, the case of the UK trans woman being sentenced to prison time for a cis man's embarassment reminded me of a case a few months ago in the U.S. (New York?) where a trans woman was prosecuted for a similar charge, but I can't keyword it to find it.
