Anecdotally I have far more student absences now than 2019-2022 due to illness (it sounds much worse in K12, and districts are being punitive because it affects their money, exacerbating circulation)

Covid has created an increase in work absences year round comparable to a year round flu season. This is due to both Trump & Biden mishandling Covid with a vaccine-only approach, opposing other needed action.

The IRS is laying off people during the shutdown, even though it was rehiring staff it previously fired because it was so shorthanded.
This one stands out because firing IRS employees costs the government money, since they bring in about $6-8 for every dollar spent on tax enforcement
