Not counting Wild Card games, this is the first winner-take-all postseason game to go 12 innings since Game 7 of the 1924 World Series.

Walter Johnson, after throwing four scoreless innings out of the bullpen, was the winning pitcher in that one.

I disliked McCarver pretty intensely by the end but had I known what was coming I’d have made my peace with him because the guy could explain the nuances of baseball without sounding like he hated it
