The Tigers and Mariners combining to hit .163 tonight is as perfect a Ray Oyler tribute as you’re gonna get.

Since Ray Oyler played for both a Seattle team and Detroit...this was like a tribute game to him...𝐁𝐄𝐂𝐀𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒 𝐒𝐈𝐂𝐊!

Honestly I think the problem was that Tommy Kahnle’s pants weren’t tight enough. Tigers kinda let that one slide and it cost them

Wow that was… something else. Happy for the Edgar Martinez wing of the Jaffe family again

They're doing a 14th inning stretch in Seattle because sure why not

14 innings!!!

This is the longest winner-take-all game by innings in postseason history

Aw, welcome back to… whatever this is!

I listen to plenty of Mets broadcasts. That booth is great and entirely irrelevant to the comparison at hand

Oh that is the wrong call, yikes. Really looked like it hit the bat first

Not counting Wild Card games, this is the first winner-take-all postseason game to go 12 innings since Game 7 of the 1924 World Series.

Walter Johnson, after throwing four scoreless innings out of the bullpen, was the winning pitcher in that one.

I disliked McCarver pretty intensely by the end but had I known what was coming I’d have made my peace with him because the guy could explain the nuances of baseball without sounding like he hated it
jayjaffe.bsky.social
He sets the lowest bar because no broadcaster radiates contempt for today’s game or his audience like Smoltz
adfrts.bsky.social
I agree, with the caveat that that’s more of a testament to just how bad Smoltz is
jayjaffe.bsky.social
Wainwright and Pierzynski are so much better in the booth than John Smoltz that it should be considered a crime to employ the latter

baseball is the best preparation for death because it does not come with a clock that tells you when your suffering will end one way or the other

All I can think of when I see the current Tigers reliever is “See Will Vest, see Will Vest, made of real gorilla chest…”

This is the seventh time a player has had a pinch-hit game-tying hit in a winner-take-all postseason game. Enrique Hernández was the last to do it in Game 7 of the 2020 NLCS.

And Leo Rivas did it on his birthday.

Pinch-hit game-tying single for Leo Rivas in the seventh inning. What a game.
