Or maybe, just maybe, what was obvious in 2024 was correct: Netanyahu fully backed Trump and would not deal with Biden because Trump would give him a free hand to escalate the starvation, bombing, and do full ethnic cleansing. Which he then did, until Netanyahu embarrassed him by bombing Qatar.

A mom in Houston reported her 15-year-old son with autism missing. She spent 6 days terrified, searching for him. The whole time, Houston police knew exactly where he was since they helped ICE place him in a refugee facility.

This is beyond cruel.

The Jewish holiday of Shemini Atzeret includes a prayer for rain, asking that there be rain "for blessing and not curse, for life and not death". May it inspire us towards the actions that will help our climate and environment so that this becomes a reality. Chag Sameach, happy holiday

Netanyahu's government, since 2010, propped up Hamas in Gaza to prevent any peace negotiations.
It now wants to go back to that arrangement, while occupying half of the Gaza Strip.
That's the default scenario.

Today seems like a good day to remind folks that the Christian school lobby was one of the biggest opponents of the ADA. They fought hard for (and won) exemptions for religious institutions from the law. Private schools are also not required to accept or accommodate disabled students.

Same.

Labeling the attacks on our school and public libraries as a “culture war” with “dueling versions of the same reality” is something the media has done for four years and our freedom to read is weaker for it.
The piece also refers to "dueling versions of reality." But this isn't a case of one side genuinely seeing things one way (as
"comparative calm") and the other side genuinely seeing them differently (as a
"hellscape"). It's a case of one side (law enforcement, local journalists) trying to faithfully depict what's really happening, and the other side (MAGA) concertedly lying about it to serve corrupt ends that are comprehensively, even intentionally disconnected from facts on the ground.

Also, just for the record, police ALWAYS threaten to quit when someone they don’t like (ie, someone who threatens anything but the most superficial of change), and they never do.

But it always gets taken at face value, not as the genuinely *political* statement it is.

CBS News would never put a thinly sourced 'story' by a rookie blogger like this on it's air. Until now. The Free Press isn't a journalism outlet, it's bloggers aren't reporters. This piece is more NYPost than Tiffany Network but I guess that's the goal.

And of course the sub-head completely misrepresents the story. I was like "He asked an Israeli student to unenroll? That seems really troubling," but it seems like the guy was a comp sci graduate student in an undergrad class who was there specifically to cause trouble.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

Special education isn't a "nice thing to have." It isn't "charity" or doing something to make us feel better. It is a right. The right to a Free Appropriate Public Education is codified in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, signed by a Republican president.

- It is legal to organize and fund protest.
- That someone organizes and funds promotion of a protest does not mean most, some, or any protesters are paid.
- Even if all protesters are paid, that is also legal
- It is good to oppose kings and fascism
- That's not what what "begs the question" means

Two MKs (one Jewish, one Palestinian) disrupted 45/47's "Victory" lap in the Israeli parliament. All they did was hold a sign that read: "Recognize Palestine!"

They were swiftly removed.

Grateful for a ceasefire. But this isn't justice. It isn't a "peace process" of any kind.

Before the late 1800s, the European canon is extremely approachable! Little kids understand it effortlessly! It was meant to be enjoyed! Even the late Romantic stuff is mostly accessible and sounds good without a lot of insider knowledge! It only stops being fun in the 20th century.

It really sucks that snob gatekeepers framed classical as high brow music so now any time you talk about it, people assume you're trying to signal intellect

But the music itself isn't pretentious, thats cultural baggage. I just like it when sounds are arranged in a cool way, like any other genre
