Last couple of days have been reading Dark Gallifrey 5 and 7 for different reasons. Very happy with how wide ranging and weird this series is.

Glad you enjoyed - very fond of that one!

It Walks Around The House At Night
A ghost story by Tim Foley, brought to life with haunting tricks, chilling twists, and a generous dose of dark humour.

All these flags, where the fuck are the Morris dancers? Where are the scones? Where are the poets, the singers, the playwrights? Where is this English Culture they claim to love?

I found myself stuck in central London yesterday. The level of emboldened hatred surrounding me was repellent and deeply upsetting.

On the tube people got off at King’s Cross, presumably for trains home. And I realised there’s only one type of person I wanted to go back where they came from.

When I was announced as the lead in a Doctor Who spinoff in 2023 Graham Linehan tweeted about me for TWO DAYS, tagging the BBC and others to say that I am pro-child abuse and they shouldn't work with me.
newspaper article about glinner. Headline is "I was treated like a terrorist for my tweets, says Linehan"

Since we're sharing examples of Linehan's scummy behaviour

The fact JK regards the appointment of a lifelong Sutton fan to manager of a regional women's team as a "plum job" betrays here level of understanding. She doesn't know shit about women's sport, she's an idiot. Solidarity to Lucy.

Another woman serving men at the expense of other women. Don't you get on with your mum?

We've been a bit distant since she died when I was 13, Graham. Still better company than a frothing transphobe, though.

It requires an estuary accent (or others) I’ll accept.

I’ve always assumed that one was deliberate to be honest.

Just realised that the song Maria from West Side Story can sound like a man singing a celebration of his own bum (‘my rear’). Not sure I’m ever going to hear it the same way again.

So we’ve decided that Predator should be called Alien and Alien should be called Parasite. Can we complete the circle?

Can't wait for the wall-to-wall media coverage of What This Means, the endless thinkpieces about Green Party dominance in a working class community meaning Labour has to take their concerns seriously and pivot towards them, you know like we'd get if Reform had won.

I suppose this is the point when I should say again that:

the amount of money the videogames industry brings into the UK economy every year is *more than double* the value of the fishing and steel industries *combined*

what this country is really good at is producing culture
naomialderman.bsky.social
yes. yes yes.

the UK is (not just the originator but) the setting for some of the most popular culture in the world. there is a whole genre of videogames that are set in an imagined Britain. 'soft' power is real economic and even political power.

Agree. One thing that I really liked about @jpspencer.bsky.social’s Labour Together report is it included culture in “growth spending”. So much policy about regional development in the UK basically regards culture, tourism, etc. as distractions from the real work of building trains to nowhere.

Oh the delight of seeing Alixion (or Alison as we came to calling it due to autocorrect) on the new DWM. Brilliant news for Robin.

Just to be clear - Shrinking = comedy. Hacks = comedy drama. The Bear = definitely a drama. Hope that helps.

Watching Twin Peaks on DVD and always delighted by how keen the menu is to push the Log Lady intros on you. Like three full times before the episode. ‘Did you want the log lady intro? No? Well what about now? Or now? How about now?’

There’s a lot to love in Bookish but my favourite thing is possibly that each story is told as two fifty minute episodes with a cliffhanger. Growing up with the TV versions of Marple, Campion and Lord Peter Wimsey I am convinced that this is the perfect format for a classic style whodunnit.
