5 things I wish I had known at 20:

1) even if you love & trust them now, have a backup plan + emergency fund they can't touch

2) don't put everything in their name even if they have good reasons

3) boundary violations = red flag

4) emotional / verbal abuse is still abuse

5) control isn't love

This right here, this exact sentence, is THE problem in American political journalism.

The IRA *was* cheap energy and good jobs! That was the whole bill! Democrats did precisely what political pundits are telling them to do and the pundits just ignore it.

the party now cared more about climate change and various academic fixations than cheap energy and good-paying jobs.

Stories like this around people rising to meet the SNAP crisis are easy to frame as inspirational and I appreciate the reporting here that stresses that this is a crisis of the government's making with long-term consequences that individuals alone cannot fix.

Plus, it doesn’t talk about the rise of pure hatred. A lot of Americans have given up their political stance on other issues in favor of simple hate. As long as black and brown people don’t get anything, they’re good.

This is a dismal take on Americans. These sorts of polls don’t account for 25 yrs of broadcast propaganda (Fox and now right wing SM) casting Democrats as evil and progressive issues as stupid. Progressive candidates do win when their message cuts through the media fog.

Hubs commented yesterday didn’t feel like Halloween because our trick-or-treaters had already been. Our neighborhood did that on Thursday.

He’s right, but it was fun to get the party done with (it’s a neighborhood shindig in Columbus) and then have a quiet night contemplating others’ pics on SM. 🎃
