Napoleon took over France legally and without any bloodshed in 1799, becoming powerful enough to control most of Europe and kidnap two popes, breaking traditions of monarchy and religious rule that had reigned for centuries and crowning himself Emperor.

16 years later he was exiled and powerless.

This is the most beautiful, evocative book. Women’s stories need to be shared. Read this book.
The January 2026 #BannedBookSkyClub book is #TheirEyesWereWatchingGod by Zora Neale Hurston.

I will start sharing talking points Thursday, January 15, 2026 (or possibly the night before depending on my schedule).

One of the most misunderstood things about Chinese censorship is the fact that very few topics are explicitly censored by law. The CCP prefers a combination of arbitrarily slapping people around for overstepping an invisible line, combined with favors for those who "impress" them the most. 1/3

This whole "we'll tell you about it later" is the new version of "this isn't the baby-eating department, we only cook the babies here."

They think we're really dumb, but it also does buy them time to do more crimes.

(Yes I see a straight line from Bari Weiss to this criminal White House)
CBS News EIC Bari Weiss had concerns about the CECOT piece, I’m told. The network decided to hold the segment pending, among other things, comment or an interview with White House officials next year…

Some products become so ubiquitous their names become the product. Like Kleenex.

For almost two decades some of these IT products have defined their category. With plenty of exceptions, Gmail has been the default for a long time for a lot of people.

That's coming to an end, I see.

Keep your eyes peeled for the new book from @suzbrockmann.bsky.social - back her kickstarter (www.kickstarter.com/projects/suz...) or wait for the bookstore release late in Jan.

She's one of the reasons I wanted to write romances in the first place. And if you need a happy place with some hope...

"It's so useless to boycott."

No it's not.

1790s Quakers kneecapped slavery in Britain by boycotting products produced with the labor of enslaved people, especially sugar.

Yeah they are just grabbing people off the street every day and putting them in torture camps if you have time to give a shit about this probably use it for ethnic cleansing they're attempting

Moreover, ICE must be destroyed
this Kennedy Center situation is definitely a desecration…. but it also feels like a bit of a champagne problem next to all the mass internments, military war footing, and FBI rebooting COINTELPRO

A huge part of the book-banning project aims to make work that provides a public good feel impossible and unsafe! It targets authors, absolutely, but it’s also trying to add unreasonable administrative burdens to the work of teachers and librarians.
Officials in Tennessee aren't just banning books, they're now demanding information on who checked out contested (largely LGBTQ+) books, including names, addresses, and "household composition."

A librarian who was given the directive has come forward asking for whistleblower protections.
Tennessee whistleblower says library board chair sought private data as part of state's book purge
A First Amendment expert told The Advocate that there are "huge" legal implications stemming from the situation.

The choc. muffins I made for my brother were better than the ones I made today.
Variables that must be tested:
Adding a dab of molasses.
Letting the whole mix sit for a bit to hydrate.
Adding the oil when everything else is already mixed (remember, that was my mistake).
