Had a coffee too late, so cut a lofi music/lyric video on my phone for this sludgy pluggnb track about maudlin manga: youtu.be/BVpHcTrhoRg

That said, the loss of that server market will still likely unlock a lot of savings & performance gains for home consumers. The moment the top end cards aren't stealing marketshare from server-specific silicon sold for 10x the margin, RAM & Cores should be more generous on all consumer trim levels.
karlrolson.com
Again, I just have doubts as to the ratio of useful 5090s vs. useless H-series racks. Yes, Elon & other fly-by-night operators have been buying consumer hardware, then clumsily stuffing them in racks run off propane generators, but the huge build outs are NVidia HPC servers in NVidia designed farms.

Yeah, the GPUs that have cross-use sold-off post-bubble will be clapped out.

That said, infrastructure for GenAI server farms is so specialized it'll likely be cheaper to build new, much how many office buildings are so specialized, they're cheaper to tear down than retrofit as housing.

It's not quite as narrow an audience as old ASICs & FPGAs used for cryptomining, but it's much closer to that than it is a GPU, so even if you're gonna do a diffusion home lab, getting older max spec m3 ultra mac studios post-bubble is a more feasible way of playing with big DNNs than a NVidia rack.

The problem is most of the spend isn't on GPUs gamers can use. Yes, GPU prices will collapse as they'll need to make up the lost volume & fill fabs somehow by encouraging an upgrade wave, while undercutting used prices, but most AI e-waste will be A- & H-series server chips: mostly NPU, no GPU.

In practice, they'll abandon old sites. The e-waste generated will be massive with few options for reuse rather vs. recycling: it's specialized hardware with specialized infrastructure needs. The occasional tech youtuber might do a bit getting 1 rack running, but even small business won't want them.

Yeah, whatever the lifespan of a lithography node is at best the lifespan of these GenAI server farms, as much how it was often faster to build new fabs/facilities than upgrade existing ones (may even still be the case,) at best, they'll want 2 of everything - 1 active, 1 down for next gen upgrades.

Also, if someone says social media does nothing but harm, I can literally point to this thread and say it saves lives.

I have only been doing this for a day, I can’t imagine the number of people Link helped over months. This makes his ban even MORE disgusting.

I 100% get why Link did the mutual aid Fridays.

Like, every time someone replies by telling me the need is met is one less person struggling in the world.

Thankfully a really dry joke, but yeah, we live in a time where it's easy to assume someone let it get to print.

Maybe you're lucky, and it's from one of those kits that had their full 3d model leaked by that goofy Gundam metaverse project. Then you just can find that, and 3d print that part and -- wait that sounds worse than finding the part on the floor nevermind.

I couldn't've done so without a few dozen notable people selling their integrity when they absolutely didn't need to, given their existing fame and fortune, even after previous cancellations.

New from 404 Media: an internal Meta message we obtained tells employees on its metaverse team that they should be using AI to “go 5x faster”. That's 5 times faster, not 5 percent more.

Meta says that its coders should be working five times faster and that it expects "a 5x leap in productivity."

Somehow, this one thing is singlehandedly funnier than anything that entire accursed comedy show could provide lol

LMAOOOOO

A bunch of comedians tried to make up for their participation in the Riyadh comedy festival by donating their pay to Human Rights Watch and Human rights Watch was like “nah bitch we don’t want your dirty blood money” 😂😂 I’m dying
Human Rights Watch Doesn’t Want Any Riyadh Comedy Festival Money
Taking money from those who took money from Saudi Arabia would impact perception of the org’s independence.
