I'm working on this description - so, that's kinda me. Working on living a good life, working on connecting, working on learning about politics, theatre, film, music, literature, and trying to be a better person. Proud Canadian.

ICYMI: “Some still insist ‘downtowns will never attract kids & shouldn’t try.’ Then they design downtown to virtually repel kids, and it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. Vancouver proves the opposite can be true...”

I’m quoted in this article by @johnlorinc.bsky.social for @calcities.bsky.social
People want to have kids and live downtown. Can they? - Western City Magazine
For decades, planners focused on attracting young singles to dense urban cores. That dynamic has shifted, in part because ...

Much recommended ‘lecture’ on urban mobility and its companion, land use planning.

Love how Brent several times stress the need to call out status quo bias, eg by highlighting that people calling for ‘balance’ in really just want status quo. Which is not fair, but just what we have gotten used to.

WATCH THIS: This is quite possibly still the most comprehensive interview I’ve ever done on smart urban transportation for better cities. Filmed in Vienna for a planned Paris-based documentary. Watch it, quote it, and please help spread it around. Thanks!

I live on a side street that got a contraflow bike lane a few years ago and I've noticed kids learning to ride with parents, wobbling along first and then getting their confidence over the summer. Really confirms that if we build bike lanes, they will come.

The spread to the suburbs has been so smart. The other week I was deep in Scarborough’s highland creek and there were teenagers barreling down the path on them. Many cycling seeds planted.

Bike share revenue is up over 30% compared to last year, and now has close to 300k unique customers. That is 10% of the population of Toronto! I also think that their internal forecasts are a little pessimistic pinning 2025 rides at 8.1 million. I forecast closer to 8.3M when the year is over.

Nineteen years ago, on October 7, 2006, Anna Politkovskaya was assassinated by Putin's hitmen.
She was the first to tell the truth about Russia's mass crimes in Chechnya, which foreshadowed those in Syria, Ukraine, Africa and elsewhere. They could have been prevented.
Almost no one listened to her.

Trump’s tariffs on China (and Canada for that matter) will already make so many things far more expensive or not available at all. Then China’s “countermeasures” will devastate US businesses when they further lose the Chinese market.

It’s almost as if Trump is TRYING to destroy the U.S. economy.

Just watched a news clip from Spain about Americans moving overseas and the backup in Embassies world wide with so many fleeing the Nazi regime. A couple of interviews with Americans leaving and of course "we come here we say we are Canadian"...of course you do. You attack us until you need us.🇨🇦

I think we should keep our eyes on Canada and not on Trump. The Canadian conservatives are trying to end birthright citizenship and also every one of their MPs has voted against women’s rights. So look to Canada and worry about what is already happening here.

How microplastics may be reshaping our bodies and minds.

Microplastics like those from car tires. The bigger and heavier the vehicle, the more microplastics shed.

You can see what's happening, right Americans? The whole world can see it. And now you will have a foreign (once hostile) entity having a training base in your country. I don't know what you think is going to happen but we all know it won't be good.
