They are not planning "a violent crackdown" on 10.18. What they are doing is sending a signal to their shock troops to try to cause havoc. But those shock troops will be vastly outnumbered. Go out and protest freely. Do not be cowed.

when big storms hit rural alaska communities, i struggle to sleep until it passes and we get word that they’re safe

Important context for out-of-state folks: all of these communities are off the road system. Think about all the struggles communities face to evac in more typical situations when you can drive some place safe, and then imagine there's no road and no flights. That's what we're talking about here.

The city of Kotzebue is under mandatory evacuation orders. That's as the community prepares for flooding the National Weather Service warns could be worse than last year's, which led to dozens of evacuations and two families losing their homes.

Communities all over Alaska are clearly saying they are done with divisive rhetoric focused on hateful non-issues that prevent progress in their own backyard.

Jim Cooper is leading in the race for Palmer mayor. Cooper has a history of progressive outlooks & has expressed support for LGBTQ people.

And folks in Kenai are choosing leadership with common sense rather than MAGA nonsense by voting for Henry Knackstedt over Alex Douthit for mayor.

Fairbanks incumbent mayor, David Pruhs lost reelection to Mindy O'Neall. Pruhs is a notable bigot who has made a career of homophobia & transphobia. Mindy on the other hand, is a longtime labor organizer who ran a platform based in her politics of respect & progress.

Local election season in Alaska & early results show more evidence that pro-lgbtq candidates more likely to win their races than bigoted ones.

If you work in political consulting, you need to change your strategies. Throwing queer & trans people under the bus to "appeal to moderates" isn't winning.
