my zine collection, which takes up 5 magazine files and a second shelf (not pictured) and has only grown since taking this photo. A screenshot of my piece from the Dreams issue of HNDL magazine, a prose poem called "Tell me what this one means." A geometric/floral drawing on graph paper. Me, wearing my Zine Zaddy hat and sticking out my tongue.

What middle and upper class cis het white people need to understand is that they only have as many rights as the most vulnerable do. You have only the rights trans people and immigrants do.
ryanmarino.bsky.social
Do you really have any rights if they are openly saying they will just make up reasons to detain you?
thematthill.bsky.social
Wow. Greg Bovino admits on camera that his agents can detain people if you look scared, change your demeanor, or grip a steering wheel too tight.

As his unmasked agents walk around with large guns to scare you, they may arrest you just for that — even if you're a U.S. citizen.

is it not weird that every day there’s a new video of anonymous masked men having the time of their lives beating/shooting/disappearing people and the dem response from the top down is “republicans want to double your health insurance premiums”

Even in places where some banned books are still on the shelves, or are mandatory reading in schools, other pushes for censorship may still be happening
kmbezner.bsky.social
Removing books from libraries is just one part of the censorship machine. Another is putting pressure on admin and undermining education professionals so a small number of vocal parents have an outsized say in the curriculum/ what's available

I think it's "technically" been in all my leases, but between spackle and command strips I've never had a LL that actually cared about art on the walls.

I have heard horror stories about bigger things like wall-mounted TVs tho...a studfinder is a very good tool to have

A codified 4-day work week.
We simply want to protect the way we've been working for over 3.5 years. The 4dww has proven benefits, such as increased productivity and improved employee satisfaction. It's part of what makes Kickstarter a special, innovative place to work.
Fair pay for our lowest-paid workers.
We're fighting for livable minimum salaries for roles that are undervalued by the market but crucial to keeping Kickstarter running. We believe none of our workers should struggle to make ends meet. Creators

there’s this weird idea a lot of people seem to have about how all of us writers and artists must secretly want to use AI and are merely resisting temptation for ethical reasons, and like, no, it’s not hard for me to resist drinking the bowl of Piss With Glass In It actually

my hands are shaking with rage and grief. i shouldn't have to do this. the edited text on this image should not exist. this should not still be happening in 2025
a panel from my entry in Samidoon. it is sepia tone of a palestinan family walking. the caption reads "in 2024, the images from inside Gaza echo my family's storie from Palestine. the walk away from our tattered homes looks the same as 50 years ago." the 2024 is crossed out witht 2025 written next to it. my hands are shaking with rage and grief as i type

Absolutely thrilled to share the cover to next year's short story collection coming out from @tordotcom.bsky.social! I'm obsessed with it!

Comes out March 24, 2026, but you can pre-order it now wherever you like getting your books! Here's Macmillan's link.

On a gradient background that goes from blush-pink at the top to a muddy green at the bottom, a book cover. Super-imposed on a pastoral, oil-painting style image depicting a forested foreground and a hilly background beneath a soft champagne sky, is superimposed a 3-dimensional rhomboid-shape, the facets of which play with space. One facet shows a pale cloudy sky, and from it, a brown hare emerges chasing the hind legs and bushy tail of a wolf, the rest of which vanishes out of the rhomboid frame. The rhomboid's other facets -- which create the kind of infinity loop of an Escher painting -- are either blush-pink or covered in the greenery from the background. Above the rhomboid is the title, and the subtitle "Stories"; below it are the words New York Times Bestselling & Award-winning Author Amal El-Mohtar. My name and the word "Stories" are in the same blush-pink as the rhomboid's facets.

I think people feel the most comfortable defending old books bc they're "canon" bc we've made the mistake of trying to defend each book on its merits-- when it's not about the books at all. They're banning good books and mid books and bad books bc they want to defund public education 😤
