What is wrong with people?? That is disgusting.
Jeffries is so far removed from what actual Democratic voters want. It's ridiculous. I'm glad they are holding the line in the shutdown - I still want most of them gone. Replaced with people willing to do the right things for people, not PACs and wealthy/corporate donors.
That's beautiful ❤️

Disparate impact liability has been a key tool in removing systemic barriers to opportunity in housing, employment, education, and beyond for historically marginalized people.

No one should be unfairly excluded from equal access to opportunities based on arbitrary and discriminatory policies.
Disparate Impact, Explained
By rolling back “disparate impact” rules, the Trump administration threatens decades of progress against systemic discrimination in housing, jobs, and education.

As I've said many times, the most sensible way to determine what the party wants & prioritizes is by looking at what it does when it has power to act, namely, when it has a trifecta at the state level. Take Minnesota:
Our public health systems are in crisis. This will only worsen without drastic measures by Congress to fix what they have broken. Health care for all would be less expensive and provide better care for all US citizens, yet the Republicans refuse to consider it. We deserve better.

In late 80s I was social worker in Houston working in Verification unit for food stamps. Made unannounced home visits to verify applicants were qualified &had reported all income etc. Unit was dismantled because cost more to run than were recovering. Very little fraud. So many myths/lies about SNAP
As SNAP hangs in the balance for nearly 42 million people, misinformation is rampant. Myths of laziness and fraud persist when we should be talking about too low wages for workers, income inequality, and our threadbare social safety net.

In this guest post, Adam Chandler sorts fact from fiction:
SNAP benefits feed essential needs while still leaving many hungry for more
Journalist and author Adam Chandler explains what so much of the conversation about them gets wrong.

The United States of America is wealthy nation.

We allow people to suffer poor health rather than provide safe and effective healthcare for all.

We allow food insecurity for vulnerable populations.

We allow housing and education prices to rise uncontrollably.

It's all a choice.

More than half of the people who receive SNAP are fully employed. You tax money isn't going to pay for people's food. It's going to employers so they can keep paying low wages.
The Walton family (who own Walmart) are worth over $400 billion, yet many of their employees are on SNAP.

Bezos is worth over $400 billion, many Amazon employees require SNAP.

The people who need help are not the problem.

It’s corporate greed. It’s an unwillingness to pay a living wage.
I have no words. . .

Reminder:

Estimates for the cost of a Medicare for All system vary widely, but most projections put the 10-year cost between $32 trillion and $38 trillion.

Which is significantly below the estimated medical expenses of the current system.

In 2023, Americans spent $4.9 trillion on healthcare.
Feeding America gets money to local food banks. They are great to donate too. My absolute go to organization. They can also help you find local places in your area to volunteer if you have time - or if you need food assistance, guide you on where to go.

This was powerful
Something unexpected happened at the @meidascanada.ca town hall in Victoria.
A group of young Afghan girls who escaped the Taliban showed up and asked to speak. They told their story of the fight for education and the need for Canada to help.
We will be sharing their story.

While gaggling with press on AF1 at 2am ET, Trump claimed an anonymous “great US citizen” paid $130M toward the US military salaries amid shutdown.

US DoD annual budget: $170B for active-duty, reserve, and related pay costs

$14B/month or $3.3B/week
~$466M/day
$130M covers 6.7 hrs for 1.3M+ troops

It’s so easy to feel powerless right now. I get it. We may indeed not have the power to do some things. But we can donate to a food bank. Volunteer. Foster an animal. Seek to find opportunities to give genuine compliments. Get sleep so we can think more clearly. Create art. This too is fighting.

Poll watchers were a significant tool in stopping Black citizens from voting during Jim Crow. So it tracks that the white supremacist Trump administration is bringing them back.
In response to requests from state Republican parties, the Department of Justice announced plans on Friday to send federal election monitors to California and New Jersey ahead of November’s election.

I don't even understand how this guy is still in the race or why people like Bernie Sanders are backing him. We have had enough "bait and switch" politicians to last us two lifetimes. We deserve better. That man has shown us who he is by the art on his body, and the choices he's made. Believe him.
Understand this: most Black people see the Graham Platner controversy through a completely different lens than most white people— our lived experience. So stop telling us it’s no big deal. It’s no big deal to YOU.
