There is one fundamental truth about mutual aid, and it always shocks people:

YOU MUST BREAK THE LAW IN ORDER TO ACTUALLY HELP PEOPLE.

This truth alone should radicalize you.

The more you work on scale, branding, recognition, institutional funding, the harder it becomes to actually
help people.

What an incredibly sad article.

And how awful that Australia continues in it’s shameful place as the top country in the world for #mammal extinctions.

What a legacy we’ve lost 😞

As I argue in #PlatypusMatters, Australia has the world's best mammals, but is sadly the worst place on Earth to be a mammal, with the planet's worst #extinction rate.
The Christmas Island shrew is now the latest species to be officially declared extinct.

And then there were none: Australia’s only shrew declared extinct
The tally of Australian mammals extinct since 1788 is now 39 species – far more than for any other country

Would love to see this happen; the general climate literacy in our media is dreadful so maybe a podcast could help get some more information and exposure on this. Pledge a coffees worth (or more!) if you can! #nzpol

The crowdfund for a podcast investigating how the idea of quitting the Paris climate accords went from fringe to mainstream is getting closer and closer to the goal. If 25 more people pledge $5 we'll be three quarters of the way there

Quit Paris? This podcast will investigate how a fringe idea moved from being a fringe position to one advocated by mainstream politicians

(also eating loads of saturated animal fat all the time is probably not the ideal dietary choice but consuming at least a modest amount of saturated fat is hormonally regulating for those who ovulate, and supports testosterone production for those whose primary natural sex hormone is testosterone)

i get a little naughty thrill out of saying to groups of diet-pilled women “I’m looking for a fatty piece, I’m trying to build muscle”

the way older Gen-Xers from the fat free ice cream era panic

1) a former World Champion boxer walked up to me in the gym today and helped me fix something about my form that’s been bothering me for close to a YEAR

2) I proceeded to use the extra hour I spent on the heavy bag getting that fix into muscle memory as an excuse to eat what felt like most of a cow

Ray Chung comes across as either malleable or petty, either inept or arrogant, either duplicitous or painfully naive.

Whichever combination of these he might be, he's definitely not the kind of local politician you'd want as mayor.

I'm sorry but Chung is a grown-ass man and responsible for his own decline. Why are we making excuses when he made choices?

Can't help but compare the ~uwu he's just a little guy taken advantage of by others~ narrative given to abusive useless shits like Chung with the approach the mainstream media regularly take towards competent wāhine Māori politicians who are the victims of actual political hit jobs.

“Chung's bid for mayor was taken advantage of by those with an axe to grind about issues he likely didn't even understand.”

OPINION: How Ray Chung’s once-promising mayoral bid collapsed in a landslide defeat

He was so confident in mayoral bid he reserved a $90k Rolex. Here's how it went so wrong
OPINION: Once a front-runner, Ray Chung's campaign style and scandal sank his mayoral bid.

Democracy Day? - once a year, every year - same day? General elections, local elections, by-elections, referendums - the whole fucking lot. Public holiday - you're literally paid to vote...

...and democracy sausages EVERYWHERE!!

Turnout figures this low (32.65%) raise serious questions about the democratic legitimacy of NZ local government.

It would be easy to say those who didn't vote have no right to complain, but it is clear there are significant problems that leave people feeling the process is futile.

(pyre is not a perfect game; the magic netball gameplay loop is not Supergiant's best. But the character, art, and setting work imo *is* very close to their best. A game a lot of people skipped, unfortunately. Has real emotional resonance)

I mean, the opening theme song is not subtle about what's going on:

All are not the same
But three shall be as one
Freedom in the flame
The end has just begun
Strands may break alone
But twisted make a braid
Together on their own
The journey shall be made

etc etc

As we see another successful release in Hades 2 from Supergiant it strikes me their immediate pre hades game (developed largely during the 1st Trump term) was about collective action by outcasts to fight back against a proudly ignorant authoritarian regime lead by a self important celebrity: Pyre.
'Box' art for the game pyre.

Once again, make a hit game loved by many... and you still get hit by a truck.

The industry is pretty sick right now.
