About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

"Trees will only grow in fertile soil, not up in mountains."

This self-seeded pine, lodged in a crevice high up in a sheer rock escarpment in the Caha Mountains, begs to differ. It says that trees will grow just about *anywhere* sheep can't get at them.

my hot take:

corridors are bad.

bad for neighborhoods. bad for buildings. bad for community. bad for public health. bad for climate.

the fewer corridors your city and the housing within it have - the better.

i'd also say corridor separation *and* pressurized stair is a hurdle.

in germany (and i think switzerland too) pressurization here just means basically an exhaust fan at the top of stairwell.

it allows for more communicative & daylit stair, like this. stunning.

a REAL Christian would see the Antichrist rise and say "oh hey cool, it's almost time for the thousands years of paradise on Earth when Jesus rules and turns the world into heaven on earth.

What Thiel really fears if the fact that there are no billionaires in that utopia.

He believes the Armageddon will be ushered in by an antichrist-type figure who cultivates a fear of existential threats such as climate change, Al and nuclear war to amass inordinate power. The idea is this figure will convince people to do everything they can to avoid something like a third world war, including accepting a one-world order charged with protecting everyone from the apocalypse that implements a complete restriction of technological progress. In his mind, this is already happening. Thiel said that international financial bodies, which make it more difficult for people to shelter their wealth in tax havens, are one sign the antichrist may be amassing power and hastening Armageddon, saying: "It's become quite difficult to hide one's money."

what a world we're in right now, where so much effort goes in to thwarting the chances of people to live their best lives, or even just to live free of fear

From what I understand, consultations like this one go on the record and even if the government ignores them (which, in this case, they almost certainly will), they can still be used to embarrass them and point out that they're not doing what the public they claim to represent wants.

I did this, took like 30 min.
Points I kept hammering: domestic cloud, regulations around copyright and likeness rights, focusing on machine learning with concrete, real world uses (creating new drugs, etc), the damage done by slop, the need to listen to AI experts who are realists, not boosters.

This is one of the most depressing commercials I have ever seen.

All of these companies need to fail, fast, before we all forget how to wipe our asses without asking an app.
