A 15 year old boy with autism went missing earlier this week

He was selling fruit with his family in Springbranch when he disappeared

They filed a missing person’s report & begged the public to help find him

Turns out he was in a Houston ICE detention facility

They kidnapped a disabled child!

Maybe they need to do an infomercial. Or like a TikTok dance. Or have Zohran explain it to them.

AND IT KEEPS GOING THAT WAY

"And you could say, Well, Dr. Martin Luther King, I've always wanted to meet you. What was your day like today? What did you have for breakfast? And he comes back and he talks to you. How cool would that be if we have a series of historical figures that we all could agree on, that we respect?"

This is Seattle’s incumbent mayor, trying anything he can to win a race where he’s well behind.

And this idea is so bad it should be disqualifying for anyone, running for anything. Student body treasurers shouldn’t have ideas this bad.

Downtown could have "like, a 10-foot wall" where people could talk to AI versions of historical figures. "How cool would this be if we had like, a 10 foot wall. It's interactive and it's historical. And you could talk to Martin Luther King."...

So if Russ Vought and Bob Kennedy were deliberately trying on behalf of an enemy to sicken and kill Americans by destroying the public health structure - what would they be doing differently?

Gonna go out on a limb and say if there’s still next-day costume delivery, then Portland probably is not, in fact, a burned-out war zone

There's a significant subset of them that will just take it out on the district. In red states, probably most. BUT IT'S THE LAW, they'll bleat, while in all the other cases where the law is ignored and it doesn't impact them directly they couldn't give a fuck.

And with that, the white mama bears who've been fighting the schools for their kid's IEP jump off the Trump bandwagon

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

There are reports that the *entire* office of special education at the US Dept of Education has been cut. These hardworking folks ensure kids with disabilities get equal access to a quality education.

America’s children deserve better than this.

And even if this was flawless foreign policy… that’s fucking TEXTBOOK interventionism! Literally one of the main things he ran on, beating up Biden for every little deal, and then Bessent’s like “pissing this money away is America First.” It’s Orwellian.

Okay, but are there any downsides?

Thune: "If the Democrats had won the majority, they probably would've tried to nuke the filibuster. And then you'd have four new senators from Puerto Rico and DC, you'd have a packed Supreme Court, you'd have abortion on demand ... "

Dearest Eliza,
The war for Seattle is one of attrition. We are in the Silver Cloud bar, watching the postgame hot dogs overcook. Surely Occidental Ave will soon flood with combatants, but we know not when, or whether they be friendlies or hostiles.

Please send single-source whole beans.

Yours,

This is a flex.

He know his rubes will believe any shit he tells them and he wants to see how far he can take it.

Next week he'll tell them everyone in Portland lives in caves now and eats brontosaurus ribs like the Flintstones.

Trump: "Portland, I mean -- every time I look at that place it's burning down. There are fires all over the place. When a store -- there are very few of them left -- but when a store owner rebuilds a store they build it out of plywood. They don't put up storefronts anymore. They just put wood up."

Friends. Benioff bought and hollowed out a major news organization (Time), rearranged a major city’s transit infrastructure to literally flow through his building, and owns a shit ton of land in Hawaii.

The dude is a league-average evil billionaire. Above average if he builds a bunker.

For years, San Franciscans considered him the rare big-hearted billionaire. But days before his Dreamforce conference begins, Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff said he would support President Trump sending the National Guard to SF and that Trump is doing “a great job.”

Favorite story about Red Sox legend Dustin Pedroia, who went to ASU.

Reporter once asked him about the "validity" of something, and he replies, “I don’t know what that word is, man. Arizona State education, bro.”

I went to Northern Arizona and this is 100% the ASU stereotype.

If you boiled ASU down into a single person it would be Cam Skattebo

Okay, so maybe they’ll dump H200s at 10¢ on the dollar. They still cost roughly the same to power/host.

I believe in a “second time as farce” AI rebound. Great platform for slop/slam schemes. But eventually a business needs to make money, and only picks-and-shovels companies have done that so far.
mattmay.bsky.social
They’ll still get caught in the downdraft when chip demand fizzles, since fabs will start to idle and their own pipeline for supplying new ones will dry up. But unlike the pure-play AI companies, they have other lines of business that are insulated-ish, like EVs.

I believe this is actually central to our political predicament. For example, for nearly everyone, the appropriate answer to the question, "Should trans girls be allowed to play on girls sports teams?" is "What business is it of mine?"

Wisdom from George Saunders, in his newsletter:
It’s interesting the way that the world these days seems to make us feel that we need to have an opinion on everything, even when having a certain opinion may not change anything we do, or anything about the way the world responds.

We seem to be losing the ability or desire to just be silent on certain questions. (Silent and sad; silent and interested; silent and alert.)
