Happy Ys vs. Trails launch day! I had the honor of authoring the digital art book that comes with the Limited Edition version of this Falcom fighting game!

Thank you, @refint.games for the opportunity! I poured my heart into it!

FGC friends: SEE ME. Yes, it has rollback netcode. ;)

For the longest time I wondered why the comic font Whizbang has such an intense italic slant. Way more than most italic variants. Then I realized that it was a near-exact match for John Costanza's lettering and he just did that. Lol at how strong that shear is!

SHELVED BY GENRE has completed the second half of THE SAGA OF THE SWAMP THING, in which Alan Moore & Co expand the character's mythology, making some truly baffling and ill-advised choices but also giving us some of the coolest-looking Swamp Things ever put on paper. rangedtouch.com/2025/10/10/s...

I'd call them inward tails. Most western comics use off panel tails or avoid covering the speaker the tail is meant to point to, so I haven't had the opportunity to try them. Inward tails are pretty neat and, if done well, can be easy to understand in manga and indie books who draw from that style.

I’ve never seen this before! An *inward-indicating* word-balloon tail (that’s the speaker’s right arm descending below the word balloon).

FASCINATING! Does this tail technique have a name? Have folks seen it used elsewhere?? I have so many questions!!! (From HIRAYASUMI, book 3, pg 37)

Oh yeah, it's a manga thing! I feel like I don't see it as much in new ones I pick up, but it could be generational depending on the artist. A quick search in Japanese shows ppl calling it フキダシの内側(に)しっぽ or フキダシの中にしっぽ which both basically mean "balloon with the tail on the inside"

Started a new Hades 2 save file; I've been switching the language to Japanese now and then out of curiosity, and the localization team absolutely knocked it out of the park! Lots of smart, hard-hitting reformulations, and clever handling of tricky wordplay—it's really inspiring stuff 😍
Chronos, Titan of Time: *However long it takes*? You speak of inevitability, little one. A subject on which I happen to be the expert. As to whomever sent you after me... I shall find them. クロノス、時の巨神:「必ず」…?残念ながら、“必然”を司るのは私の役目です。あなたを遣わせた者の正体も、“必ず”、突き止めますよ。 Polyphemus: "You know who's disrespected me like this? Nobody. Nobody took my sheep. Took my eye."

Melinoe: "Yes, well, sometimes we've no one to blame but ourselves."

Polyphemus: "Nobody's gonna pay for all that someday. But you're gonna pay right now. *Heh.* Metaphorically, I mean! I'm not gonna take your money. Just gonna eat ya... bones and all."

One common challenge when translating horror manga is that the Japanese language is basically tailor-made for stories where it seems like characters carry on normal conversations with the protagonist for dozens of pages until you hit the last page and it turns out they're a ghost nobody can perceive

Tetsuya Chiba’s art! The flow of the action, the impacts, the sfx lettering, and the expressions have that kinetic oomph you need for selling meaningful fights indistinguishable from a modern boom. But it’s married to the more exaggerated body language + simpler character design ethos of the era.

❦ The Great Japan Instant Curry Review Thread 🧵

The instant curry section of a Japanese grocery store is a sacred space of affordability, convenience, & yumminess. As a gourmand in these parts, I will post my brief, unvarnished opinions.

☞ Ratings out of 10. A ⁵⁄₁₀ is good, though not exceptional.

❦ The Great Japan Instant Curry Review Thread Part 3🧵
(Curries 81-110)

The curries go marching one by one, hurrah, hurrah! 80 curries in, & I think I've only scratched the surface!

☞ Ratings out of 10. A ⁵⁄₁₀ is a solid curry. There are better & worse, but 5s are meant to be average yet good.
The curry bookshelf! A delightfully massive selection of retort curries contained on a bookshelf in a store.

Introducing my new comic book font, Girl Kisser 🧡🤍💖

It's all-caps, really pretty, super soft, and comes with a wide range of glyphs. It's hand-drawn with a micron pen and hand-traced into vectors, and it's perfect for comic book dialogue.

You can find it over here: ko-fi.com/s/b1e9cc34d4
Large center text: "Girl Kisser", with tiny trans, lesbian, and bisexual pride flags poking out of the side.
Top left text: "Designed for use in comics"
Top right text: "Regular • Italic / Bold • Bold Italic", with each in their respective style
Bottom right text: "Manga characters ♪♫♥※💢〜"
Bottom center text: "Free for commercial use"
Bottom left text: "internationalcharacters ¿¡ÁÈïÔŰ»"
