All I want in life is to persuade everyone, when encountering politics & culture, to ask, "why are we talking about this?" I mean that very literally: anything you encounter on your screens reflects a choice. Someone covered that, talked about that, rather than the many other things out there. Why?

This also indicates the essential dishonesty of saying “it’s just a tool.” A hammer is a tool. Nobody writes about the “inevitability” of hammers. Nobody has ever studied the harmful effects of hammers on learning and concluded that teachers must all hit their students with hammers “responsibly.”

When I first moved to LA I thought it was SepulVAYda, like with a Spanish accent.

Same with La Cienega (which is La SeeENugah and I have thought was La SeeuhNAYguh...) I was v. much mocked by my roommates.
