Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Even if AI somehow eventually finds use cases that are profitable, it seems inevitable that, before that happens, there will be a huge crash from the current bubble bursting.

Premium: The AI Bubble's promises are impossible. NVIDIA's customers are running out of money, GPUs die in 3-5 years, most 1GW data centers will never get built, and OpenAI's Abilene data center doesn't won't have the power it needs before 2028 - if it ever does.

The AI Bubble's Impossible Promises
Readers: I’ve done a very generous “free” portion of this newsletter, but I do recommend paying for premium to get the in-depth analysis underpinning the intro. That being said, I want as many people ...

Tron also came just at the front edge of the emergence of the “personal computer”.

Prior to the PC, computing power was a part of governments and large corporations. The “personal computer” was an intentional shifting of power to individuals.

So the original Tron captured a lot of that moment.

Tron was for an age when computers were mythical and rare things, these days people are surrounded by computers, it just doesn't work anymore

the idea that freedom is in our DNA is just a misinterpretation of the fact that we’re a nation of finicky whiners who don’t like to be personally inconvenienced
internethippo.bsky.social
At least we no longer have to hear about freedom being in Americans' DNA or whatever. Turns out we love to eat shit and bow to some bloated halfwit like any other people throughout history

Fun fact my co-worker who does very little is part of the Co-pilot pilot project at work and discovered he can use it to answer e-mails and make summaries of giant PDFs.

So boy howdy have we gotten fast e-mails and everything possible summarized.

Actual value added: 0.

Amusingly, the feverish investment into data centers comes as AI adoption has *already* passed its peak in Enterprise, the AI companies themselves admit hallucination is ubfixable, and studies are revealing that workslop is not merely low-value but actually negative value for companies using AI.
"Workslop" was the logical outcome of productivity maxxing
Local throughput optimization always externalizes costs onto downstream colleagues.

In every single episode, the Scooby Doo gang discover a human is behind the mystery, not ghosts or mummies or whatever. Yet they begin each new case believing the villain is a supernatural being. Every time. Not once do they say “maybe it’s an old man like last time”

More AI as lawyer seen in the wild (Facebook) today:
Facebook ad for a company that helps people form LLCs. The ad compares themselves to lawyers who bill $150-400 an hour. A screenshot from the tailorbrands website. It is a video showing their AI called Navi telling the customer which filings and licenses the customer needs for a business that does financial consulting in New York state.

Now that the local and national press have started to cover the Portland ICE area round-the-clock in reaction to the President, Antifa have devised a plan where they are encouraging one another to come in animal costumes.

The costumes serve the function of masking the violent extremism to make the direct action appear like a family-friendly gathering on camera, and to whitewash the past ultraviolence.

In 2019, Antifa devised a similar plot by giving out free "milkshakes" at a protest. But they couldn't contain their bloodthirst and nearly killed me when they saw me. In 2020, they mobilized a fake "Wall of Moms" where female Antifa supporters and members wore yellow shirts to act as human body shields while violent rioters behind them hurled projectile weapons.

Here’s a primer on ‘primer.’

It’s pronounced ‘PRIMM-er’ if you mean “a small book” or “a short informative piece of writing.”

It’s pronounced ‘PRY-mer’ if you mean “an initial coat of paint.”

LIke, if literally any other president from Truman to Biden had openly monetized his properties, in plain sight, as part of regular WH business, & was selling branded items while in office, it would have ended immediately. And then we wonder why the One Special Boy keeps doing all of the things 🤷‍♂️
mcopelov.bsky.social
One reason the One Special Boy thinks he can just issue Executive Orders to do whatever he wants is because he keeps issuing Executive Orders & doing whatever he wants - in obvious violation of the law & Constitution - & no one who swore oaths to country & Constitution is doing anything about it.

People who live in big cities and have MAGA relatives in rural and suburban areas are getting deja vu, that's for sure.

We've all had conversations with relatives who insist they know better than us what our cities are like. That we must be deluded not to see the constant riots and muggings.
