I still want someone to make a Coen Bros-style movie about the life of one of the people described in the World of Nintendo book who would go around stores in the late 80s resupplying Nintendo displays in stores with games and promotional materials out of the trunks of their cars.

Interesting to hear from the author of the (fantastic) World of Nintendo book how Nintendo of America hired World of Wonder’s distribution team to be the full time distribution team for the NES soon after the Ruxpin bubble quickly burst and WoW had to lay everyone off: worldofnintendobook.com

You always hear about how Nintendo of America hired Worlds of Wonder to help distribute the NES in America when it launched thanks to WoW’s success with Teddy Ruskin, but I forgot that Ruxpin only first hit shelves right alongside the NES during the NES’s October ‘85 test launch in NYC.

40 years ago this month, Teddy Ruxpin, the world-famous talking teddy bear started hitting store shelves. Highly anticipated, it would be one the hottest toys of the Christmas of 1985.

I like that guy with the glasses and the moustache, even if he gets shoved out of the way by Mr. Fantastic in the funniest way possible in the Superman movie

Very serious officials in positions of power in the DCU. 😭 What’d you all think of the #Peacemaker finale on HBO Max?

If only there were people who could go around and find out what the reality is, and then perhaps report on it back to everyone. They could even publish their reporting in print or online, and possibly even make a business out of keeping folk informed about what's happening in the world. If only.

Mamdani talking lucidly and passionately about trans rights and history in a video that should frankly shame every politician who has hemmed and hawed and triangulated and said, "Well, but sports..." It's not that hard to tell the truth and stand for what's right. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEvV...

They sure are. I was very surprised to find them during my trip earlier this year.

It says a lot that the only two movies about a baby that are worth a damn - Raising Arizona and Addams Family Values - don't insult the audience's intelligence by even trying to pretend that the baby is ever in any real danger, and so the rest of the movie goes batshit blazonkers *around* the baby.

You need even more convincing to see Trick or Treat (1986)? How about an unexpected cameo by ShowBiz Pizza Legend, Billy Bob.

It’s weird they even call it candy corn because it’s definitely its own sour thing that puts actual nasty-ass candy corn to shame.

The nerds candy corn is so good i am upset I do not have a comically large barrel full of it.

The texture is so good

Hilarious that, 35 years on, the Turtles are still going pretty strong, but absolutely no one gives a fuck about these three characters outside of Fred’s association with a breakfast cereal.

Don't worry, American culture was also threatened by the ninja turtles based on nothing but "New is bad, old is good"
An ad with classic cartoon characters Fred Flintstone, Dennis the Menace, and Woody Woodpecker with the caption "Turtles Come And Turtles Go, But We Go On Forever"

Got the Divoom Pixoo 64 hung up. The USB cable is a bit unsightly, but a necessary evil, I suppose. Still, this dumb thing is great.
