As someone who has studied the circulation of terms “subversive” and “communist” in the lead to and through McCarthyism as empty signifiers to justify violent suppression I feel like I’m both amazed and unsurprised how transparently and unsophisticatedly “woke” and “antifa” are now doing the same.

Slings and Arrows is an all time legendary show. The Shakespearean theatre company it is loosely based on is the Stratford Festival, a very real theatre company that you should support if you find Slings and Arrows even remotely engaging (and you will)

When I was doing financial news, one of the things I quickly learned was that if someone at a company called to provide you “context” on background, they weren’t doing it to help you out. They weren’t even concerned about making things clearer for the investor. They were trying to spin you and the public narrative about the company. So when they reached out to me, I realized that what they said was less important than trying to figure out why they were saying it. If I could figure out the reason they were spinning me, I’d be closer to the truth of what was really going on at the company.

That is an important thing to keep in mind as you work your way through these stories about the “overwhelming likelihood” of a merger between Paramount Skydance and WBD. Who is spinning the story. And why are they doing it?

Mass Effect is not as responsive to your tactical choices as Deus Ex was, but you could make actual durable choices across three games because of your choices in character interaction, often in quite unpredictable ways (unlike the combat, which was often VERY tedious)

Deus Ex hit at my gaming prime and my gosh, it was so good at this. The only game world that even comes close is Mass Effect (and it comes pretty close)

Thinking about it, the original Deus Ex may be the king of choice in a game with a story, because your choices are significant, linked to gameplay and unforced. From the very start, for instance, whether you use or avoid lethal force against the “terrorists” determines something about you.

I saw the most vivid rainbow ever today outside of Joshua Tree. I was driving, so I couldn’t take a picutre, but I could so CLEARLY see the difference between indigo and violet that it was actually startling. Here’s pic of the rain system racing in:

I keep getting these scaremongering Blue Campaign ad reads from Mario Lopez, it’s like a mini object lesson in how awful many of these anti-trafficking orgs: starts off with an avuncular “It’s back to school time!” and is followed up with “So keep your eyes peeled for human trafficking”
