She'd stabbed him. The realization doesn't hit her immediately, and she watches Kylo's eyes widen, then lower to where there's suddenly a hole in his side.

He falls then, and Rey has to stop herself from trying to catch him, because a part of her tells that she should just leave him and be done with all of this. She could leave him. No, she admits to herself bitterly. That hasn't been in the cards for a while now. Not like this.

So she kneels beside him, pouring light into the wound she'd given him, willing the flesh and skin to stitch itself together. "I wanted to take your hand," she whispers, and she doesn't know if he's heard, but something flashes in her mind.

A vision beyond time, beyond worlds, of Ben Solo holding out a hand to her with the softest of gazes in a lush garden filled with more flowers than she’d ever seen in her life. Her hand slips into his, warm and without hesitation.

On the wreckage of the ship, she weeps silently, letting the thrashing waves and sea foam hide her salty tears. Maybe it’ll be easier next time.

In another life then, Ben.

It was almost as if the forest was helping her, drawing her deeper on secret paths.
And maybe she would have been more concerned, had she not entered the woods already on the run from the Kingsguard. She’d rather take her chances in the wildlands.
Eventually the voices of the men and even the calls of the hunting hounds grew quiet.
She would need to find her way out of the woods, but that would be a problem for the morning.
Eventually exhaustion overtook her—she curled up and slept, on a bed of starflower moss beneath an old oak tree.
She woke with a start, the warmth of morning sun on her cheek. A man, impossibly large, crouching an arm’s-reach away.
“Hello, little one. You’re safe in my realm.”

"Jesus Christ," Ben curses, crossing the room to place her water bottle on the nightstand next to her side of the bed. "It's freezing in here."
Rey grabs his arm when he makes to pull down the wide open window, "No, leave it."
This earns her an incredulous look, "Baby, it's like minus five outside.
."
"I know," she sighs, sinking down further under their ridiculously soft comforter. "It's perfect."
"I don't understand, you hate being cold," he gets under the blankets, sliding across the Egyptian cotton sheets decorated with autumn leaves until his body is curled around hers.
"You're always complaining that you have to wear sweaters even in the summer because of the AC in your office.
"That's completely different. Offices should be a reasonable temperature," she scoffs.

"But bedrooms shouldn't?"
"Exactly! The bedroom should be cold so that you can get warm under the covers."
He bops her affectionately on the nose, "That makes no sense."
"It does!"
"Nope, not even a little bit."
She's quite for a moment, not meeting his eyes, then whispers, "The nights in the Jakku desert got so, so cold and I never had enough blankets." Then a soft smile breaks across her face, "But our bed always does. Plus," she pulls his arm around her waist. "I have you now, my very own ginormous hot water bottle."
Ben tightens his arm, drawing her further into his body. He lays a line of kisses down her throat. Slipping his hand under the waist band of her flannel pajama pants he murmurs,
"That's right, baby, I'lI keep you warm."

this is all reminding me of the reylo fic I always wanted to write where Ben has ladies pursuing political marriages with him because he’s the ruler of the galaxy and he blurts out I’M ALREADY MARRIED to get rid of them and because he is in his mind and the rumors get back to Rey

How that scene could’ve gone, if the writers weren’t cowards:

Rewrite of the Tava and Kylo kiss from the comics, but Ben is written as a panicking Victorian apologising to Rey and assuring her his heart is hers and they can be married without scandal. Rey reminds him they’re enemies.

This is simultaneously offensive (due to the misogyny of a token female character being immediately coded as a seductress) and hilarious (due to Kylo Ren issuing a shoot to kill order because a non-Rey girl gave him a smooch).
