That's something that the mainstream Star Wars fandom still says despite the fact he wrote TLJ from dailies of TFA and saw the dynamics at play from them. Not his fault you didn't pick up on them, imagined something else, and then got mad Rian "subverted" said imagined paths.

He was asked if he enjoys subverting expectations. He denied doing any such thing. He said he just wanted to make a story that was character-driven and dive deep into these characters that JJ set up. He would never be condescending to the audience by trying to play “gotcha” with subversion.

He still regularly gets people coming up to him and gushing about how much TLJ means to them and how it made them feel like a kid watching SW again. (This was super nice to hear!)

While I figure this out, my initial thoughts are that:
A) Rian is humble and constantly deflects praise to himself to praise for the franchise

B) He super loves SW and tried always to make something true to what he loved as a kid

C) He’s very much focused on the positive reception of fans

But if healing is actually something witches and (ultimately) women have an affinity for, then that would be the better option for a synthesis. It is that dark/other element missing from the Jedi. BUT they instead went with lightning powers and Rey's connection to a dark side user 😒

And I'm not arguing with the OP, I think the theory is compelling and awesome. But LF has already described the healing ability as something related to light side users and dyads only, and see it as a seesaw. It's a literal binary, and the Life Force moves back n forth, searching for balance.

There are plenty of other reasons why of course, and who knows what the hell is happening behind closed doors. But I find it wild that The Acolyte was canceled when it exposed those binaries and fanboys lost their minds over it. This has always been the story.

LF seems pretty intent on keeping the binary in SW suspended indefinitely. That way boys can have what they want and girls might get a treat now and then. If they lean into any sort of synthesis then they've moved beyond Lucas's original work. And I think that's a risk they're not willing to take.
