After finishing Hungerstone (recent Carmilla-inspired novel) by Kat Dunn this morning, I'm at 51! Mostly by queer authors, ~20 by trans and/or nonbinary authors, and a few I learned about through your posts (Dorley book 1, Trans/rad/fem, and Magica Riot)

First event of the Birmingham Literary Festival* tonight, a good-humoured conversation with the authors of a modern retelling of Carmilla (horny lesbian vampires) and a story of how Mary Shelley came to write Frankenstein (lusting after annoying men).
Book: Hungerstone, by Kat Dunn. Book: Love, Sex and Frankenstein, by Caroline Lea.

For our October book pick, we're reading HUNGERSTONE by Kat Dunn: a sapphic Carmilla retelling that pits the British Industrial Revolution against wildness of the Peaks.

Which cover do you prefer?
HUNGERSTONE BY KAT DUNN COVER. Text in neon green, stonecut style, with a long drive on the first U. The image is a woman with long unbound hair in a white dress, draped on her back on a bed, so her head and one arm dangle over the edge. The white contrasts with the dark red background. HUNGERSTONE BY KAT DUNN COVER. Text in white and barbie pink, in a messy, handwriting style. The image is a woman sitting beside a table with a silver fruit bowl. The bowl is piled high with berries, grapes, and sliced oranges, and more pears, pomegranates, and a melon half spill across the table in the foreground. The woman is only visible from waist to nose, but she wears a white dress and holds a Cockerell in her lap.

Book 5 of ‘25: Hungerstone by Kat Dunn. It’s bloody. It’s carnal. It’s gothic as hell. It held a mirror up to the parts of myself I dislike, which was uncomfortable!😅 I only wish I could’ve had MORE Carmilla. “Oh, little Lenore. It is terrible to be alive. But it is worse to be dead to ourselves.”
Book cover for “Hungerstone” by Kat Dunn. At the top of the cover, “Hungerstone” is written in bright green letters and the “paint” of the U drips down until it nearly touches the face of the woman on the cover. At the bottom of the cover “a novel” is written in white cursive font, and below that “Kat Dunn” is written in all caps, once again in the bright green color. The majority of the cover is a depiction of a woman lying on her back draped across some sort of settee or couch. Her head and both arms are hanging over the edge of the settee on the left side of the cover. She is wearing a white short sleeve dress with a gold brooch pinned just above her breasts. Her throat and the top of her chest are bared to the light. Her skin is pale except for a blush on the cheek that is turned to the light and a slight pink color in her lips. Her eyes are closed and her mouth is slightly open. Her blonde hair tumbles to the floor. Her arm in the foreground of the picture hangs down so that her knuckles brush against the ground. The cushion of the settee is white although there is a blanket draped over it in colors of gold and pink and red. The rest of the colors surrounding the woman are all warm dark browns and reds. There is a light shining on the red drapes behind the woman and a curiously shaped shadow can be seen blocking part of the light. A meme in two panels. The top panel shows princess daisy and princess peach. Princess daisy looks at princess peach with a smile on her face. A text box reads: “Are you tired of being nice?” The bottom panel shows princess daisy now leaning in very close to princess peach, still smiling. A second text box reads: “Don’t you just want to go ape shitt” (Sorry to be a memeing millennial but I couldn’t help thinking of this meme every time Carmilla and Lenore interacted.)

if I’m tired today it’s because I stayed up too late reading about lesbian vampires
A hardback novel, “Hungerstone - Kat Dunn”. The cover has a woman draped in a white nightgown over the end of a bed in an oil painting style, with a bright neon green title and author
