I'd really appreciate if writers these days took a look at their characters doing therapyspeak and whether that's appropriate for their work and their world.

By "therapyspeak" I mean speaking like this: "This is the emotion I'm feeling, and feeling that emotion makes me want to act in a way"

Slim Jim (1978, USA) art by Jack Davis
An old magazine ad for Slim Jim depicting a jolly werewolf biting down on one of the processed sticks. The moon looks on longingly, licking its lips. The tagline reads: "Satisfy your meat tooth."

A TTRPG specialty bookstore "CCFOLIA BOOKS" opened in Tokyo.
You can find many kinds of Japanese TTRPGs there. You should go there when you come to Japan.

I’ve not touched Hades II but I can see where the author is coming from: there’s a current YA-iffication of writing in contemporary fantasy media that is very, Very hard to get away from.

basically this. your favorite small art house studio uses AI and it helped make expedition 33, which everyone seems to be willing to give a pass. clearly its not a hard line for some people especially if it wins game of the year awards

With SCOTUS set to legalize conversion therapy, I think it's important for states to get around this decision by implementing new legislation applying private rights of action to practitioners of conversion therapy by their victims with large damages and long statutes of limitations.

you are a cumulative being, you are not separate from anyone or anything. be kind to everything.

life ends in misfortune and death no matter what you do. therefore, take the risks that interest you.

this existence is just a particle of something larger. you are here to feel good while you live.

So this guy was pretty much wrong about everything.
Argath aka Algus yells "Animals have no God!!" like a jerk. The original translation of Final Fantasy Tactics is notoriously rough, but I always liked how blunt this line was.

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

From "Hearth Spirits and Kitchen Bogles" in An Almanac of Midwestern Prairie Spirits.
Text: Pantry Finks

Image: an illustration of three squat winged gremlin-like creatures perched on a single old kitchen chair. One is crouched atop the chair, one on its arm, and another beneath the chair, crawling through its spindled legs. The bottom-most imp reaches for a loose spool of thread.

this is how I, a resident of LA, found out that the Palisades fire was arson, that they caught the guy, and that he used gen AI to work his way up to doing the crime

the city of los angeles burned in january in part because of a man who couldn’t stop generating images of burning cities on ChatGPT, and then after he lit the fire he asked if the fire he started was his fault
