I think telling his parishioners that they need to commit violence against some unspecified enemy is a bigger headline than flagging people with an empty gun!!! The presence of the gun is also pretty wild, really makes explicit what he means by violence

The American version of Christianity is so cool it's like a post apocalyptic cult that grew out of half-remembered Bible stories syncretized with TV shows, with firearms as totems of deathbringing and lifesaving in equal measure.
