There is a brave knight within u ⚔️
A brave mole knight is standing on a molehill, sword and shield in hand. He is framed by a gothic stone frame and in the back, you can see a landscape reminiscent of the rennessance portraits. Underneath, on a piece of paper it says, "There is a brave knight within you", with a painting of a small sword below.

This whole thread is gold - this really zeroes in on something important about the disconnect between AI users and those who are against it.

in a session with my therapist, she was commenting how she can't draw a stick figure -- then recalled a time when she could envision exactly what she wanted and it came out easily on the canvas. and she had no idea how she did it.

I was like, yeah, the flow state. you know, like athletes and gamers

This is an act of kindness but you need to understand that if this is you, telling people about it a week after the fact is likely to put those people right back into danger, and yourself.

You may never be able to safely tell anyone. For decades, if ever.

I am so tired of people equating "edge" with "good" writing, and people implying I can't be a serious writer because of the things I love. Bradbury himself inoculated himself early against such foolishness. Love what you love. Write what you love. Tell everyone else to fuck the fuck off.
“Friends made fun. I tore up the Buck Rogers strips. For a month I walked through my fourth-grade classes, stunned and empty. One day I burst into tears, wondering what devastation had happened to me. The answer was: Buck Rogers. He was gone, and life simply wasn’t worth living. The next thought was: Those are not my friends, the ones who got me to tear the strips apart and so tear my own life down the middle; they are my enemies.
I went back to collecting Buck Rogers. My life has been happy ever since. For that was the beginning of my writing science fiction. Since then, I have never listened to anyone who criticized my taste in space travel, sideshows or gorillas. When this occurs, I pack up my dinosaurs and leave the room.”

An immunocompromised friend of mine just caught COVID from a roommate. You're not just protecting the people you're speaking to, you're protecting the people they come in contact with, and so on.

Masking at conventions makes so much sense I don't know why we don't all do it. The chances of getting get sick at a con are so high we have a cute little name for it: "con crud." That its easy to get COVID at cons should come as no surprise. Why would you not want to protect yourself and others?

Maybe there was already a sense of sacrifice and community because of WWI, and that helped keep people focused on others.

I'm in the final stretch before major trans gender-affirming surgery, and any book sales will be so helpful in being able to afford this all! Direct sales through TF Publishing are best, but anything will be so beneficial. Please consider purchasing, signing up to Patreon, or sharing this thread.

Does anyone know any historians who specialize in Russian penal culture? Specifically, anything about Siberia in the era of 1890's Russia?
