Definitely, if anything Haruhi’s fallen off harder than Bebop imo. Bebop still has that cachet of being an important show everyone must watch but I rarely ever see people talk about Haruhi save for when conversations like this happen lolololol

isn’t packed full of references to non-anime things which is kind of a loss for culture and a big reason why modern anime fans are so siloed away from other mediums imo. Also I still see people talk about Varda and Godard pretty regularly!

I saw someone mention on the other site that French New Wave fell off because Tarantino was the gateway to that and they failed to consider that actually for a lot of people it was Cowboy Bebop, which is also no longer the default gateway anime and whatever the gateway is now
