At a local No Kings rally near Innsmouth, Massachusetts, *every* protester showed up in an inflatable frog costume.

They must be from a different supplier than the Portland frog's costume, though. Bystanders describe the costumes as more like fish-frogs, "batrachian," with an odd, loping gait.

Yeah, that was horrific, especially in contrast to how much less scary the monster was.

Watched The Cursed. It was mid, as the kids say. Didn't like the well-worn "g*psy curse" trope. It was unclear where it was set, and had a giant plot hole. But it was well-acted and had a lot of unnerving, gory atmosphere to make up for the shaky writing.

You'll just have to give him lots of hugs and pettings.

Twist: the car isn't murderous but is desperately trying to find someone who will turn off its radio.

Merit has little to do with why books go out of print and writers get forgotten. Every reader has the capacity to become a champion and help enrich the canon.

my latest investigation for @consumerreports.org is based on months of reporting and 60+ lab tests of leading protein supplements

we found that most protein powders and shakes have more lead in one serving than our experts say is safe to have in a day (🧵)

So I'm looking for it online and nowhere is it turning up. All I'm getting are hits for The Big Book of Urban Legends, which I know is not the same one I had. It doesn't help that I can't remember the title, hence the confusion when I ordered the book.

I'm giving up for now, don't @ me.

I'm having the worst Mandela Effect experience ever. There was a book I had in the 90s, an anthology of comic book art dealing with urban legends. I thought it was The Big Book of Urban Legends, so I ordered another copy -- but it's not the same! None of the comics I recall are in there.

Mamoru Oshii planned it. A young Satoshi Kon took the lead on its layouts. The result: a stunning moment from Patlabor 2.

We're looking inside the film's martial law sequence, including storyboards and production art:

Spooky bird stories. Last year's Halloween comic.
A comic titled Spooky Bird Stories. In panel 1, a turkey vulture is telling stories to other vultures, and it says, "She walked toward the source of the terrible smell. She got closer and closer, and then, to her horror, she saw... No dead body." A black vulture says "No!" and a turkey vulture says "Did someone already eat it??"
In panel 2, a northern cardinal is telling a story to some songbirds. It says "They peered through the windows of the house at the gory scene. Zombies had smashed through the door in the night. The homeowner was dead. But worst of all... He hadn't refilled the feeders." An eastern bluebird says "Aaah!" and an American goldfinch says "It can't be!".
In panel 3, a screech owl is telling a story to other owls. It says "And then the ghost fluffed itself up really big to appear scarier." A saw-whet owl gasps, and a long-eared owl says "Horrifying!".
In panel 4, a downy woodpecker is telling a story to other woodpeckers, and says "The eerie sound rang through the dark woods. Tap-tap. Tap-tap. It was the distinctive two-part knock of the Ivory-billed Woodpecker. The species had returned from the dead... FOR REVENGE." A red-cockaded woodpecker says "Yesss".

every so often I see a uniquely-named town that has the same name as a small town in the place where I grew up and think "wow that's weird" until I remember:

- you grew up in Oklahoma
- those places were named after the indigenous people who lived there
- they were forcibly removed to Oklahoma
