Make art with your friends. Organize an underground show. Buy tapes and zines from friends and strangers. Support each other. Culture is made by regular people living their lives and finding ways to connect, and capitalists can never own that.

It's #nationalcomingoutday . I have used my work as a way of coming out for forty years. I have no regrets. If you are an artist of any kind, I hope that you can live your truth and show it to all of us.

This thread speaks for itself as a Catholic Explainer, but it's very cool to see something I worked on in my MA(the Eucharist as a ritual object in the middle ages) wielded against the oppressors. Detainees deserve and are legally entitled to receive religious rites.

It's always good to see priests who still remember there are *seven* Catholic social principles. Also, that noise you hear is the USCCB screeching to the Vatican and getting back nothing, lol

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

We’ve reported extensively on how the FDA allowed foreign drugmakers to send generic medications to the U.S. from factories with filthy labs and contaminated equipment.

This month, we’re digging deeper and could use your help. THREAD/

We're teaming up with @zanemcneill.bsky.social, Eric King, and Josh Davidson for a conversation putting the federal attack on trans people in historical perspective—connecting it to repression during the Red Scare, Lavender Scare, Black Liberation and Gay Rights Movements, Green Scare, and more.
A promotional graphic for "Gender Terrorism?: Surviving MAGA's War on Trans People," a virtual event hosted by Firestorm Books on October 13th at 7pm ET. The image features black and yellow text over a photo of the US Capitol Building, illuminated by an eerie pink and red glow.

RIP Tony Fitzpatrick. Taught me so much about what it means to love a place so much that you become one with it. A truly singular Chicago artist.
A vibrant collage by Tony Fitzpatrick features a peregrine falcon with architectural elements and bold text related to Chicago.

Chicago: Avondale! 60618! A neighbor has created a community altar at the Shell station on the south east corner of Belmont and Milwaukee - a memorial to human rights and victims of ICE. I added to it and you should too. Let's make it massive and impossible to miss. Bring your offerings.
A community altar by a Shell gas station on the south east corner of Belmont and Milwaukee Ave. in Chicago. Signs read: "Stop Ice Abductions" and "Stop Terrorizing our Communities. Abolish ICE!" There are also candles, and various offerings, as well as sidewalk chalk. A detail of altar offerings - dolls, a stuffed frog holding a "Send ICE Home!" sign, and candles - some lit.
A pair of flyers inspired by those used by Chicago contractors who are often undocumented - both insulting ICE in various ways. Memorial candles and a sign reading "We remember our neighbors, kidnapped by ICE at this gas station on Wednesday, October 8, 2025" hand written in black marker on blue paper.

Reminder that this state and local police involvement is explicitly illegal in very plain terms under 5 ILCS 805/15, but @govpritzker.illinois.gov doesn't care beyond soundbites and IL Attorney General Kwame Raoul holds an incorrect interpretation of the law.

like in previous days, a large contingent of state troopers, cook county sheriff’s police, and assorted local cops are guarding the ice detention center and keeping the streets clear for ice.

lots of protesters heckling them. a group is chanting, “they grab them! they grab us!”

Religious leaders here are not mincing words. They have repeatedly used the word "evil."

"Detention and deportation are acts that wound the body of Christ, and deny the dignity of God's people."

This shutdown is about many things but to first order: Republicans want to let poor people and folks in rural areas especially to struggle to live.

They want to leave people to die.

Call your Senators and insist they do not vote for any funding bill that does not restore the Medicaid cuts.

While this is going on here, ICE has been spotted on foot + in vehicles across SW + NW sides of Chicago. Can't verify reports rn, but also presuming suburbs. Yesterday was brutal. It's not lost on us they have more agents free for weekend kidnappings now with their facility secured by state police.

The politics of punishment is for losers and creeps and we're throwing that in the garbage where it belongs.

The politics of care is for winners and heroes and that's how we're fucking doing things from now on.

Fund Friday post :

Happy Friday Yall. Post fundraising links, cashapp links, whichever campaign needing help on . ♥️
Screenshot of a text message conversation on a purple background. The first message from AJ Link at 7:48 AM reads: “Howdy pals. Can I ask for a favor. If anyone has capacity or time today can they do a fund Friday post. I know lots of people need help.” This message has a heart reaction. The second message, also at 7:48 AM, replies: “Obviously what everyone does with their CPU is sacred. So no pressure.“

I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.

I switched from Spotify a while ago for all the regular reasons and have never looked back - not least because Tidal's "Daily Discovery" routinely kicks Spotify's ass when it comes to suggesting new-to-me music.

Text your friend a squid fact. Watch a video of a cuttlefish doing something cute.
Doodle a squid and then show it to me.

The world is cruel but squid are good.
