God the world is tough right now.

Find your people & keep them close. Forget worrying about loving too hard or too freely. What the hell else is the point.
Speaking of, this has been on my list for quite some time… if I can unbury the wardrobe doors enough.
It may take well over 40 years but you do eventually find your people. And by “my people,” obviously I mean the ones who are like “yeah, that sounds about right” rather than “what do you mean laundry day now involves power tools, Amy, where are you going with that oscillating saw, Amy”

The German company that makes the mechanical ladder used in the Louvre heist has used the image to advertise, with the text 'When you need to move fast'

10/10 response, no notes
I’m not even watching right now but I did hear the many voices of #criticalrolespoilers screaming all at once

And then screaming some more 😂

This side of the screen is entertaining, at least.
Just— in an overwhelming, unpredictable world where everything feels too broken to fix, reliability is a relief.
Any giving is valued & appreciated. At the same time, nonprofits are staring down a very bleak road, and many of us are preparing for an influx of continuing community need. If you’re in a stable place, consistent giving to a local outreach or service would go a long way.
Soon enough January will come. The holiday generosity will have gone, people’s budgets will tighten, the horrible political leaders will find another crisis to create, and a lot of people will still be hungry.
I’m seeing a lot of chatter about people donating to food banks right now. I love it & don’t want to dismiss anyone’s good deeds. But y’all know you can do this all the time, right? Emergency response windfalls are amazing, but steady giving is one of the best things you can do for an outreach.

Have just been told the free fridge at the Millvale Library is bursting with food items if anyone is in need.
I’m not the greatest fan of Max, but if he takes the championship, 1. he will have more than earned it 2. sympathy to Lando & Oscar and absolutely none to Zak Brown for sleeping on Max & RB while playing team politics.
They have the only team pair of rivals for the WDC who haven’t actively tried to kill each other and somehow still keep messing up driver management.

Either Lando or Oscar easily deserve the WDC, but it’s not thanks to the leadership.
McLaren leadership is absolutely full of it. They talk a good game about not having a primary driver & letting them race, but make inconsistently unfair, weird rules while gaslighting their drivers.

when trans people take HRT to feel normal: “look at these depraved sex freaks performing their sick fetish in public, we should bully them out of existence”

when cis ppl take HRT so they can fuck real good:
This, in addition to the slashing of SNAP benefits earlier, plus SNAP being halted during the government shutdown, is sheer reckless cruelty.

This is a good time to give to food banks or mutual aid if you can afford it, even if it’s just a few items to a local Little Free Pantry.
Records obtained by ProPublica indicate that food banks across the country were expecting more than 27 million pounds of chicken, 2 million gallons of milk, 10 million pounds of dried fruit and 60 million eggs that never arrived.
Trump Canceled 94 Million Pounds of Food Aid. Here’s What Never Arrived.
ProPublica obtained records from the Department of Agriculture that detail the millions of pounds of food, down to the number of eggs, that never reached food banks because of the administration’s cut...

With this crowd? The whole fucking thing.
Thought experiment, how much of the White House could the president tear down before anyone in power did anything meaningful to stop it? Like if he just kept going?

I know I just wrote a thing about accepting "imperfect comrades" but I don't mean people with Nazi tattoos, just the ones who get them covered up.

Chekhov: if there is a gun on the mantlepiece it must go off in the third act.

T. Kingfisher: if there is a gun on the mantlepiece, the mantlepiece is probably going to try to eat you.
Two books for spooky season:
COFFIN MOON, Keith Rosson: Best modern vampire story ever (although it's set in the 70s).
THE TWISTED ONES, by T. Kingfisher: It lures you in with chatty good humor (especially about NPR Pledge Week) and a lovely dog...then slams the door and bites you in the dark.

I was gonna toss up a short substack with the protest photos.

But I got video, and interviews, and so what I am going to do is edit this properly because Mrs. Sharon Matheny, who has a bullet scar on her left arm and is a Republican and laughed when I said next time duck, deserves more than a photo

‘It is autumn in Moominvalley, for how else can spring come back again?’ ~ Finn Family Moomintroll, Tove Jansson.

@racheldeering.bsky.social here for the rest of an Autumnal #BookWormSat 🍂
This is the first year I’ve heard the term October slide and oh hey, it has a name

Also it’s kicking my ass.

I look forward to being productive again in another six months.
