“Concerns over an AI bubble bursting have grown lately, with analysts recently finding that it’s 17 times the size of the dotcom-era bubble and four times bigger than the 2008 financial crisis.”

Hang onto your butts. This “correction” is gonna hurt.

As a chemical engineer I would like to point out that you should always be wary when chemical engineers make claims about stuff in other fields they know nothing about.

In addition to Glaze and tools mentioned above...

"Nepenthes generates random links that always point back to itself - the [AI web] crawler downloads those new links. Nepenthes happily just returns more and more lists of links pointing back to itself."

Some artists suggested that we pin a summary of Glaze, Nightshade & other projects here. Instead, I will point them to Melissa Heikkilä's article on our lab and projects. It is the definitive story of who we are, how we got here, and why we do what we do.

The tools Glaze and Nightshade are giving artists hope that they can fight back against AI that hoovers internet data to train. Are they enough?

"Glaze… adds what’s effectively a secret cloak to images that prevents AI algorithms from picking up on and copying an artist’s style…

Nightshade [adds] an invisible layer of poison to images, which can break AI models…."

It's great that artists have some defenses against AI theft.

TBF, the UK has heads of state who last much longer than that 👇🏼 & who are elected by precisely nobody.
They have - and use - more power than many people realise - yet many people think this 'system' is fine in a notional democracy, and even rather charming 🤷🏽‍♀️

Aged 92, Paul Biya has been President of Cameroon for 43 years and has spent much of his time ruling from the same floor of the Intercontinental Hotel in Geneva. He was PM in 1975 when Harold Wilson led the UK and Mao Zedong led China. Biya is now ‘running’ for an 8th term

(See Alt text for details).
The Diamine 2025 Inkvent Calendar (teal edition). Lying on top of it, top left, two boxes of J. Herbin 1670 ink - Caroube de Chypre, with a brown label, and Opale nocturne, with a turquoise label. To the right of them, a white TWSBI pen box. Just below it a black sample bottle of ink labelled ‘Robert Oster Lyme Regis Grey’, and the Espresso Bronze TWSBI Eco fountain pen, a clear piston filler with a coffee-brown lid and piston knob and bronzed fittings. In the middle, fountain pen in soft swirling grey resin by Darail Penz, next to a grey leather pen sleeve. Believe that, a bright yellow leather notebook cover, A6 size-ish, lying on the grey cloth pouch it came in, printed with the Kayztyle logo.

There's a fiber arts fair in my neighborhood and after yelling "YOU MADE THIS?! AMAZING! HOW?!" at every booth, one booth gave me some knitting needles and another sold me some recycled yarn, and I am so pumped about where this is going for me

(Also one booth had a GOAT, there was a goat!)

I love this so much.

Reminds me of Simone Leigh's sculptures which often have parts of the face obscured (eyes, or mouth, or both) or entire face replaced with roses (or shells, or a jug or vessel, etc.).

So many Black women artists occassionally use this device.

Let's be clear on who Christopher Columbus was, a conquerer who spread disease & slavery who was so sadistic in the ways he treated natives he appalled the architects of the Spanish Inquisition. That's the fact of him there is to reclaim.
