Kiss the Girl (Meant to Be #3) by Zoraida Córdova

An official adaptation of Disney's The Little Mermaid that nails the themes as it stays structurally true, makes it contemporary without nostalgia, & delivers a fab rockstar romance with a Latine cast.

Rep. Pramila Jayapal, who chairs the Congressional Progressive Caucus, had previously endorsed Bruce Harrell.

She is now dual endorsing Bruce Harrell and Katie Wilson for Seattle mayor. #SEAelex
A Facebook post by Pramila Jayapal:

I'm proud to endorse both Bruce Harrell and Katie Wilson for Seattle Mayor in the Seattle mayoral race.

Read my full statement.

TEAM JAYAPAL ENDORSED BRUCE HARRELL & KATIE WILSON

"In his time as Mayor, Mayor Harrell has been a strong partner for me-both in working together to deliver federal dollars and progressive policies that benefit Seattle and the 7th Congressional District, and in ensuring we stand up to Donald Trump's authoritarian overreaches that hurt our residents and erode our democracy.

That is why I was proud to endorse him back in December 2024 and stand by that endorsement.

In the last several months since Katie Wilson entered the race, I have had several conversations with her and have been impressed by her vision, skills and commitment to progressive policies that will make us an inclusive, innovative, and affordable city for working people."

"That is why today, I am proud to announce that I will also be endorsing Katie Wilson in her bid to be Seattle's next Mayor.

Katie is an organizer, like me, who has shown her fight and mettle in successfully organizing transit riders from the ground up, working in coalition to pass successful policies like the jumpstart tax and desperately needed social housing. She understands the need to build a strong team around her that will ensure her vision becomes reality.

She will be a fighter for the principles of equity, immigrant justice, civil rights, and fundamental democratic rights that are all under threat right now and hallmarks of the fights I take on every single day as your Member of Congress."

"I also believe that if we are to truly have a democratic process, voters need to speak for themselves without millions of dollars from wealthy individuals and big corporations being poured into our elections. Katie's exceptional win in the primary election is an inspiring example of just that.

For all these reasons, I am proud to make this dual endorsement today."

Joel Kaplan - president of global affairs at Meta - was one of these rioters.

He also got off 🍆💦 on asking his employee where she was bleeding from after hemorrhaging from pregnancy complications and put in a performance review that she wasn't working enough when in a related coma.

The Bush Republicans who are now acting like they didn’t have anything to do with creating the rising authoritarianism in our country should Google “Brooks Brothers Riot” & remind themselves of their role in producing this.

Mike Johnson a little bitch baby
jamiedupree.bsky.social
This GOP move does several things:
+ No votes in the House until at least October 14
+ No swearing-in for Rep.-elect Adelita Grijalva D-AZ
+ No 218th signature from Grijalva on the Epstein Files discharge petition
+ Continues the House 'jam' of the Senate on the CR

🚨🚨The House reading clerk just read a letter from House Speaker Mike Johnson where he declares a 'District Work Period' from October 7 to October 13.

That would mean no votes in the House until mid-month.

Cute but ultimately I needed more tension and space because he's an astronaut. I wish this had been dual POV instead of only Amerie. I still can't believe she didn't know their date was to stargaze! A+ cover.

Essential Labor: Mothering as Social Change by Angela Garbes

I’m aligned with the thesis: to expand the definitions of mothering & value & reward it. Society runs on this unpaid labor. The non-memoir parts were significantly weaker, especially on disability.

Lubchansky perfectly encapsulates how very absurd and disconnected this moment in time feels. Simplicity is set in 2081, but its chaos is patterned after echoes of ours. Both art and text capture relatable moments.

Some amazing gay history. Listen up kids.
I'm watching that documentary "Before Stonewall" about gay history
pre-1969, and uncovered something which I think is interesting.

The documentary includes a brief clip of a 1954 televised newscast
about the rise of homosexuality. The host of the program interviewed
psychologists, a police officer, and one "known homosexual". The
"known homosexual" is 22 years old. He identifies himself as Curtis
White, which is a pseudonym; his name is actually Dale Olson.
So I tracked down the newscast. According to what I can find, Dale
Olson may have been the first gay man to appear openly on television
and defend his sexual orientation. He explains that there's nothing
wrong with him mentally and he's never been arrested. When asked
whether he'd take a cure if it existed, he says no. When asked whether
his family knows he's gay, he says that they didn't up until tonight, but
he guesses they're going to find out, and he'll probably be fired from
his job as well. So of course the host is like ... why are you doing this
interview then? and Dale Olson, cool as cucumber pie, says "I think
that this way I can be a little useful to someone besides myself."

1954. 22 years old. Balls of pure titanium.

Despite the pseudonym, Dale's boss did indeed recognize him from
the TV program, and he was promptly fired the next day. He wrote into
ONE magazine six months later to reassure readers that he had gotten
a new job at a higher salary.
Curious about what became of him, I looked into his life a little further.
It turns out that he ultimately became a very successful publicity
agent. He promoted the Rocky movies and Superman. Not only that,
but get this: Dale represented Rock Hudson, and he was the person
who convinced him to disclose that he had AIDS! He wrote the
statement Rock read. And as we know, Rock Hudson's disclosure had
a very significant effect on the national conversation about AIDS in the
U.S.
