Except there's no proof that a socialist media would do better than a dedicated anti-racist capitalist or mixed economic media here. Like, why would socialism do a better job than capitalism at convincing racists to stop being racist?

I have decided I really want this to be true, so I assume it's true rather than "it's complicated" because fuck mosquitos.

Actually, IIRC, environmentalists studied this and mosquitos could safely go extinct/be removed from the food chain with almost no negative impacts.
figgityfigs.bsky.social
Got goddamn mosquitoes inside the house and I think they’re breeding in the sump pit and I am an environmentalist but I would be ok if mosquitoes simply went extinct.

Like, I know wayyyyy too many people who use that and then use it to get bitchy about "why are you medicalizing reality" and other shitty smart ex-grad student nonsense I've done that WE ALL NEED TO STOP DOING.
jeninmotion.bsky.social
I am weirdly aggressive about this on here because as a smart, informed person who also hates the Trump regime, it is really easy to let one's own depression that starts with facts become depression/anxiety that you won't treat because "it's based on reality" and that helps no one.

legitimately i really do wish people would stop mistaking their own major depressive disorder for politics. it would be better for themselves and also the world

I feel like there's just a segment of the population, trans or cis or otherwise, who will always insist that being happy is fundamentally a character flaw that implies you are insufficiently aware of/don't care enough about the world's problems

I think that what we can infer is that insider trading is rampant, there is an expectation that if you are onside with the administration you will not be prosecuted for it, and there is a belief this admin will not be leaving, so YOLO.
jeninmotion.bsky.social
Which is not to say all of this is easy! It's been over 50 years of waiting for the majority of white Americans to get the fuck over the fact that Black Americans deserve civil rights and social programs! But not sure socialism fixes it.
jeninmotion.bsky.social
Yep, if liberal pluralistic democracy works and would generally make 75% of people happy if we had a generous enough social democracy for life's natural downs, less corruption and racists weren't always fucking it up, that means one's identity as anti-capitalist isn't the same as being a cool hero.

Happiness and contentment really has been branded as cringe and it's really not, it's honestly how I can go so hard. Getting sucked into the pit of despair sucks the energy right out of me and I don't think people realize how much it happens to them.

What do cafes have against plain white sugar anymore

I do not approve of sweeteners -or- raw brown organic wev; the former are sickly, the latter doesn’t dissolve well.

i do not care for coffee -grit-

The thing about the Roberts Court is they're not evil geniuses, because they're not geniuses.

“More than three dozen federal judges have told The New York Times that the Supreme Court’s flurry of brief, opaque emergency orders in cases related to the Trump administration have left them confused about how to proceed in those matters and are hurting the judiciary’s image with the public.”

In fairness this was also true of The Clash, Pink Floyd and Bruce Springsteen, so Morello really managed to follow in the footsteps of his heroes 🥲

seems like a non-insignificant percentage of rage against the machine's fanbase are young republican men driving SUVs bopping their head to anti-oil, pro-immigrant songs thinking the lyrics are about how they wish their suburban parents would get off their back
Tom Morello tweets: "Fascinating that all those “don’t tread on me” posers and their AR-15’s are nowhere to be seen and government tyranny is instead being opposed by a guy in an inflatable frog suit."

Someone named Manny replies: "@grok
why do some people say Tom Morello and band mates are RAGE FOR THE MACHINE and not against ?"

(Also sexism, because ignoring sexism to shit on white partisan Dem women is also fucking bad for a good analysis of why right now is happening)

I feel like I did in 2008 when I came to this area and the rich girls I dated talked shit about the grunts for the Iraq War and I was like, "bro, trust me, people who joined up expecting 4 years of grunt work, then college are not like yay, this was what I wanted."

Understanding the libidinal/emotional appeal of racism and why it makes more sense than the rational economic case of anti-racism for generational GOP voters is what we need more than trying another round of deliverism b/c materialism does not explain this electorate.

Nothing reminds me that Bluesky is also a site full of white liberals who have no ties to the military than the discourse whenever The Troooops come up and I should not get to say that, but I was the lucky cousin who didn't need the GI bill to get college. Some of my cousins absolutely did.

The initial response from the various military-affiliated social media groups I follow seems.... unconvinced.... that the troops will actually get paid on time.

hey quick question what exactly is the process for getting a progressive supreme court again
imperialaxis.bsky.social
No one, really. Electoralism has never actually accomplished much of anything. It was the marches and the riots, and a little bit of support from a uniquely progressive Supreme Court, that ended segregation more than anything else.

Things that we can say: WW2 led directly to the good changes of the 1960s and the end of Jim Crow. Unfortunately, the effects of 1964 led to a very complex set of changes where a bunch of white people remained racist and the GOP decided to court those voters on racism to push their agenda.
jeninmotion.bsky.social
They are literally not smart enough to do this AND a bunch of agencies will probably freak their shit. I also would expect a lawsuit against it Monday morning.

Jim Crow, actually bad. The 60-70 year tantrum among the white population since the Civil Rights Act of 1964 being a huge part of why 2025 is Like This, also awful. Progress has still been made and is still being made.
