has anyone else spoken to david shor, the democrats' premier pollster and noted race science afficionado, on this topic, because this sounds like a particular rationalist Wormtongue
tiredgenerally.bsky.social
yeah, ezra basically believes that left-liberalism is doomed and we have to dislodge the current ruling party at whatever cost with whatever coalition we can piece together. its extrapolating way too much from 2024 which was more about the overarching landscape than the policy or messaging
samd.bsky.social
just my two cents on Ezra Klein: he is generally good on policy and his work on things like housing is helpful

the problem is that his punditry is misguided for two reasons:

1) he is not skeptical enough of right wing bad faith

2) he is acting like the U.S. is Hungary, where the right is popular

Here’s an angle for a journalist looking for a fresh take on the White House “Antifa” roundtable — most of the people who participated are employed by or have a direct financial connection to Turning Point USA. I think that’s pretty telling, no?

i am not sure mike johnson’s plan of abandoning the capitol to a bunch of snarky house dems (of which there are many) with nothing to do was a smart strategic move

We are in the second week of the Republican shutdown.

Where are House Republicans? On vacation.

Went looking around the Capitol to see if any Republicans had the common sense to come back. Featuring @mcbride.house.gov.

I know the labeling of their enemies as “Antifa” is a cynical move to justify punishment under some abstract collective, but it’s also very funny that they are positioning themselves as anti-antifa, or, you know, as fascists.

Disney should give someone a budget to at least write a comic on this premise.

Adelita Grijalva won her election fair and square.

Now House Speaker Mike Johnson is refusing to swear her in because she would be the final signature to release the Epstein files.

Mr. Speaker, respect democracy. Obey the law. Swear Representative Grijalva in immediately.

when you are worried that THIS supreme court will rule against you on invoking the insurrection act, a statute that famously gives enormous deference to the president ... maybe that's a sign that your military deployments are pretty baseless

Pat Fitzgerald is extremely mad and I simply would not want to be anywhere near the prosecution in this case

I don't think it makes it to trial and if it does they are going to be humiliated
annabower.bsky.social
A second set of pre-trial motions is due by Oct. 30.

Comey’s defense counsel, Patrick Fitzgerald, said he expects that batch to include a motion regarding abuse of grand jury process and an “outrageous government conduct” motion.

Basically I strong believe that people only read Politico/CNN/Axios soundbites of what Dems say and the occasional Schumer post and I'm like, "so you also don't listen to Dems, you think they can just post themselves viral in this environment? Says a lot about you."

Bad Bunny needs to bring out the KPop Demon Hunter girls and go, "they had the biggest song of 2025, y'all!" as part of this just to stick it to these fucking chuds even more. NOBODY WANTS LEE GREENWOD, MIKE, you fucking disingenuous loser.

Let us consider how many "the best song ever" songs in musicals are the worst. We're all looking at you, Rent. Golden is a #1 song on the pop charts right now.

The most dramatic war for next year's Oscars is gonna be about whether Sinners or KPop Demon Hunters deserves music-related Oscars more, and also, "Golden" deserves that Best Song Oscar for the impossible feat of writing an excellent pop song for a movie musical.

really can’t say enough about how mike johnson is a sniveling little coward of a man. a bayou-bred pushover with a dignity deficit that would embarrass renfield

Q: Do you agree that the mayor of Chicago and governor of Illinois should be in prison?

MIKE JOHNSON: Should they be in prison? I'm not the attorney general. I'm not following the day to day on that

I don’t think it makes sense for Dems to publicly demand that Vought be fired as a condition of passing a funding bill, but they should hint publicly (they have been) and say explicitly in private that it’s one of the only things that could signal enough trust to pass a funding bill.

a fortunate quirk is that doing food and medical support for impoverished children, foreign and domestic, *also* is about the biggest bang it is possible to get for our buck.

so you can analyze aid on a moral basis or a realpolitik basis and you get the same answer: we should do it
juliaazari.bsky.social
Here's the thing. I am a lucky person and pay a fair bit in taxes. I can think of no better use for my tax dollars than feeding children, because I think all people are equally deserving of basic humanity.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.

Literally all they've got any more is KKK-style nativism, directed specifically at Latinos. Every single GOP message collapses back to this. They've become the Klan

"Belichick was always a fraud" is a ridiculous argument, go back and watch either Rams super bowl

he got old, he slowed down and couldn't keep up with the changing game anymore, and he lost his ability to evaluate talent
cptowers.bsky.social
Bill Belichick won 10 games with Matt Cassell and then made the playoffs with Mac Jones, so I don't think the UNC thing necessarily proves that he was always a fraud, like some folks are saying.

I think it proves he is *currently* a fraud, though.

Next year is going to be a Republican bloodbath and the GOP is all in on "ILLEEEGALS!" and "THEY GONNA TRANS YOU" as their only talking points.

JUST IN: The Republican Mayor of Fairbanks, Alaska’s second biggest city, lost re-election last night to a Democrat.

Mayor David Pruhs is a conservative who fought protections for LGBTQ+ residents; he made comments this year drew condemnation this year from Alaska Natives. He lost to Mindy O'Neall.
