Folks, esp NHS senior managers, here's the NHS Pension opt-out data.
Just look at the demographic trends for opt-outs. Also, those orgs with the highest opt-out rates surely need an independent investigation with "that's surely not right".

It's such a bizarre framing. Labour MPs think taking 450k kids out of poverty is putting the country first! That's why they wanted it to happen! It's not because they personally benefit.

This is exactly right. We have to accept that occasionally we will pay people to do nothing so that when it is busy we can respond with something.
And also the system has become so inured to running on fumes that there's almost a loss of the cultural memory that pre-2010 it was normal to run with some spare capacity, the post Cameron NHS running permanently "hot" with no shock absorber capacity is a bad thing
