BlackRock is seeking to buy Aligned Data Centers, a data center construction company.

It’s also going to buy AES, one of the major power providers for Big Tech data centers.

While these data centers drive up your electricity costs, wealthy financiers are going to make a killing.

Glad to see dozens of students at Vassar decarbonizing NYC this morning in @jeffsseidman.bsky.social's class.
We can do this for any city, and now we have 1000 sets to distribute for New York. Ideas welcome!
#PlayEnergetic
A roomful of college students playing a cooperative board game, Energetic, in which an activist, a politician, an entrepreneur, and an engineer team up to build a zero carbon energy supply for NYC by 2040.

In this updated version, you begin in 2026, and you can't build offshore wind till 2029, and then only if you win the 2028 election.

You do, however, start the game with 1 GW already complete, thanks to the Champlain Hudson Power Express transmission line. So you only have to build 15 more GW to power NYC's heat pumps in 2040.

Why did @nyscomptroller.bsky.social @TomDiNapoli.bsky.social spend the time and expense of creating a Climate Action Plan if he refuses to follow it? Burning the planet + losing public pension funds because he didn't #DivestNY. Good interview w @rgoyle.bsky.social, NYS comptroller candidate.

It’s good that Lander is getting arrested and helping people fight ICE. But here, he has actual power.

He should fulfill his promises, which were to take major and specific actions on climate.

He has power. He made specific promises. He should deliver.

These lines in the @gothamist.com @elizabethkim.bsky.social @brigidbergin.bsky.social story exposing @bradlander’s maneuvers & outing him as cozying up to NYC’s corporate world are important.

They confirm our suspicions why he’s been so resistant to major climate action as @NYCComptroller
👀👀 🧵
Excerpt from Gothamist story that says lander was communicating with Kathy Wylde pre-primary. Excerpt from Gothamist story that lander “sought to assure Wylde that he would be in a Mamdani administration to address concerns from the business community”

This is key to rebuilding trust in our elected officials!

There’s still October, November and December for him to deliver. He should! For our part, we’re not going to quietly pretend all is fine and dandy when it’s not. We’re in a low trust society now and politicians like Lander breaking their promises is part of it. WE keep OUR word.

Truth is precious and important. It’s not image-making and misleading people to grease a path.

@bradlander.bsky.social must deliver on his promise of major action on climate.

@nyccomptroller.bsky.social wields power. Use it.

Protesters raise signs directed at Lander during his image-building but empty climate week event. This event and week would have been the obvious moment for him to deliver on his promise, but he has refused to do so. That blew a private promise of a deadline of summer or at the latest September. There’s still October, November and December for him to deliver. He should! For our part, we’re not going to quietly pretend all is fine and dandy when it’s not. New study shows people seriously underestimate the degree to which people understand humans are driving climate change. In reality, 71-88% of people get this. But people “feel” it’s much lower. Good News: We are more willing to pitch in when they understand the consensus:

Will Lander leave a legacy as comptroller? What will it be?

Comptroller Lander’s taken many laudable stances on areas he has no control over. Here, he has real power. He can deliver major action, if he wants to. He could leave a legacy.

Lander should keep his promises. He should set policies into place that move the city’s business from dirtier money managers, like BlackRock, to cleaner money managers over time. His term will end soon.

It’s your call @bradlander.bsky.social: mere words or real deeds.

We’re not going to let @BradLander run out the clock and mislead people to think he did the deeds, yet it was only words. In climate policy it’s called “greenwashing” = not the real thing. In fact, that’s a lot of #ClimateWeekNYC: BSing. That doesn’t cut it.

I know people probably think that’s common. In my experience, it’s a never event.

Lander’s term isn’t over. He still has the time to act. At this point, though, the promised timeline for action is well past.

On a personal level, I’ve been part of highly-charged deals for big policy shifts before. I’ve not yet seen top New York pols who make a serious agreement turn around, undermine and then break it.

When then-Comptroller Stringer made his promise to deliver oil and gas divestment, he delivered. These are world-leading policies. And Stringer has left a major legacy to his tenure as Comptroller.
