I talked with a guy complaining about the Tappen Zee becoming the Cuomo bridge when they built the new one.

I compared it to how no one calls DCA anything but national.

I have never seen someone get quieter as fast as that man did.
DC residents have been refusing to call that airport anything but National for almost thirty years, we certainly can refuse to call that arts center anything but the Kennedy Center for three

What's so hilariously stupid about Jain's statement is, if someone takes controversial stands and still manages to win (this isn't moneyball, WAR doesn't matter), that makes them a good politician. They're maximizing the utility of their office, not their electoral success.
when we said “defer electoral strategy to the actual politicians running for actual offices” we meant “after calculating wins above replacement somehow”

2/ It wld be more viable in practical terms if once a prize court rules in the favor of the privateer the privateer could sell the cocaine into the Miami or Gulf Coast market. So Lee's bill shld package the Letters with a pardon for the drug trafficking similar to the deal the Honduran prez got.

Gets to key point. Letters of marque are most often issued by powers without a robust navy. It's the ultimate privatization. You take your seized vessel to a prize court at a port of the issuing power. Are you going to sell the cocaine? The boats themselves hardly look like valuable assets.
Flagrant violations of international law aside, what a hilarious admission of weakness from a senator who oversees a bloated military better funded than the next three superpowers combined.

I honestly still can’t believe they did this

it’s just photos on a desk! it’s not even in the same league as his fucking birthday note! removing it after the fact is the biggest possible “we are covering shit up” signal they could possibly send, couldn’t look guiltier if they tried
This photo, file 468, from the Epstein files that includes Donald Trump has apparently now been removed from the DOJ release.

AG Bondi, is this true? What else is being covered up? We need transparency for the American public.

Bunch of really dumb people would end up finding out what happens to privateers when they don't end up on the successful side of a naval encounter
😳 On 12/18/25, Senator Mike Lee posted:

“Would you like to seize cartel assets as a privateer?

My bill would allow the president to issue you a letter of marque.

Time to take these pirates down. 🏴‍☠️” 1/ x.com/senmikelee/s...

This Yglesias piece in the NYT is horrifically bad. Almost every "fact" it cites is provably false. At best it is cocktail party banter from a pundit who knows nothing of energy. At worst, it was cut/paste from oil industry talking points. So, a rebuttal: www.nytimes.com/2025/12/18/o...

Sigh. @kevinmkruse.bsky.social , please note that nothing you reposted is meaningful. Those could be classified documents - it's just a sloppy, shit job of redaction.
Former NSA employee (16 years) with a pro tip for you. Released controlled document on the left, Epstein on the right. See the difference?

In real redactions, some words, headers, and bits will almost always still be visible, but especially classification headers. These documents are UNCLASSIFIED

This is experience masquerading as knowledge. Those could be classified pages of testimony, we don't know.

All that is different here is that DoJ did redactions without much specificity. Sloppiness and uncaring work is the more likely explanation.

I am genuinely fascinated how the Trump administration's handling of Epstein punctured his image among bro voters and UFC type dudes. Folks like Theo Von and Rogan began to turn on him almost immediately after that. (Von also criticized Trump on Gaza and Rogan on immigration).

When “AI-enhanced pathology diagnostic systems” were presented with radiology results, they tended to identify demographic information from the images then use those demographics as the basis of diagnosis. Leading to errors in 1/3 of diagnoses for Black patients.

This isn’t actually true. It’s clearly not the same photo. There’s also no such implication; the imagery in the dump is heavily redacted to the point where the faces on nude paintings get black boxes.

The Epstein material is confusing enough without this breathy true crime investigator nonsense.
The White House has been caught.

The administration inserted a photo of Bill Clinton, Michael Jackson, and Diana Ross into the Epstein files and falsely implied it showed them with victims.

In reality, it’s a publicly available fundraiser photo featuring Jackson and Ross’s own children.

Jews will more readily become members of interfaith families - like mine - and of course that comes with a fair bit of syncretism (that's socially stigmatized to discuss in exactly this way and for this reason).

But Christian friends, with all respect, Jews DO NOT buy your sales pitch that often.
