Don't get me wrong I've played a lot of both Hades games and similarly enjoy the slop but its hard not to feel like Hades 2 is a pointed decision not to innovate with narrative and mechanical structure when, for better or worse, every game of theirs prior did so pretty dramatically

My hot take is that the gutlessness is very much associated with the roguelite structure. It's hard to have any sort of long term consequence or any sort of compelling finality (like would expect with Greek myth lol) when you've gotta see every blorbo every run because they serve gameplay functions

Met a sweet black vulture named Dumplin. Dumplin was dragged out of their nest by a dog when they were still very young and imprinted on humans. Sadly, Dumplin can't be released into the wild as the risk of it approaching people who may be dangerously unkind to them is too high.

Transistor was *intensely* formative for me but my expectations for Supergiant's output are pretty low at this point. Pyre was structurally super interesting but narratively weak and neither of the Hades games have much to hold on to beyond the charm +razzle dazzle
