As Venezuela’s central govt withered on the vine, its presence outside select neighborhoods in Caracas disappeared, replaced by armed gangs, which now provide public safety & other svcs, giving them legitimacy & support.

Eliminating 100s of them still leaves 1000s more.

"Graveyard of Empires" has only recently been applied to Afghanistan, with the first reference appearing in a 2001 article by Milton Bearden in Foreign Affairs.

That term's historical usage is more closely associated with Yemen, where a mass evacuation of UAE forces is currently underway.

Virginia Oldoini, Countess of Castiglione, 1837-99, anticipated Surrealism. She explored the significance of adopting appearances and manipulating the means of being viewed by others.

In “The Vengeance,” sent to her ex, she holds a dagger, à la Medea. This selfie queen rarely spoke to women.

MONEY BAG is the name of a chicken-filled spring roll dish at the Singlish lounge on 13th Street in the Village. Soy-seasoned jelly fish is also on offer.

Anaïs Nin ran a printing press here in the 1940s.
