I just accidentally opened “threads” and was smacked in the face with aggressive hot takes about “audiobooks aren’t reading” — ARE WE STILL TROTTING THIS OLD NAG OUT? For the love of god, let it go to pasture already, it’s *exhausted* 😭😭😭 YES, AUDIOBOOKS COUNT AS READING 😭😭😭 DON’T MAKE ME FIGHT YOU

Just sharing this cartoon made by Niels again.
Shieldwalls are awesome.
Regularly check in with loved ones to make sure they're perhaps in need of a shieldwall.

One of the reasons I have such an affinity for librarians is we both have deeply misunderstood jobs. People think it's all leather-bound books and rolling shelf ladders, not data science and archival work.
Like, c'mon. We have really strong opinions about ergonomic keyboards.

Library (archives, research) folk, could you give me your best one liners about Why Cataloguing Matters, please?

Because sometimes 'Without cataloguing no-one can find or use the stuff' just isn't enough, although it clearly should be.

Thank you very. #GLAM #archives #rarebooks #metadata 📚

Jane Austen's 250th birthday is coming up in December and I hope you'll celebrate by taking a turn about the room, acquiring a passion for dead leaves & closet shelves, and taking a fancy to the last person you could ever be prevailed upon to marry.

Censorship Alert: I published a book about Ghislaine Maxwell trial, and another on Kevin Spacey's trial- this evening I got an email from Amazon's KDP saying they are inappropriate and there all of my books are being taken down, including on Sudan, SBF, Eric Adams

"I know how tough it is some days to look with hope and confidence on the months and years ahead. But I would like to tell you what I often told you when you were much younger. I like you just the way you are."

Particularly important in this, imo, are the host of court case decisions that have come in over the last couple of months that all circle around whether or not we have First Amendment Rights in libraries and whether or not library books constitute government speech.

Those cases are noted here.
A major decision in the lawsuit over vendor book ratings required by the Texas READER Act. It's a big win . . . and adds to some of the ongoing questions related to First Amendment Rights, Free Speech, and government speech as discussed in *several* recent lawsuits.

Requiring Book Sellers to Rate Content of Books Unconstitutional, Per Federal Judge
A major win for the freedom to read in Texas, as judge rules that requiring book vendors to rate books is unconstitutional.

god I love librarians. absolutely the best people. want the rock-solid principles of a leftist community organizer with the compassion and thoughtfulness of a great teacher, but also the systems-organizational mind of the best project manager? Try librarians! They're also really nice and like books
