Another superb occasion last night at our third twice-yearly @loroshospice.bsky.social charity quiz. Our winners took home a fabulous voucher for a First Class Lunch on the Great Central Railway, and the grand total raised for the evening was a magnificent £710 💙

Northumbria Pay and Pension Petition: Stop the Steal!
If Northumbria does this, other universities will too.  These cuts will harm thousands of people, their students, families, and their local communities now and into the future.

This is the most ruthless act of union busting in the history of the UK games industry. Yesterday, @rockstargames.com unfairly fired over 30 employees for union activity.

We won't back down, and we're not scared - we will fight for every member to be reinstated.
BREAKING: Yesterday Grand Theft Auto VI maker Rockstar Games fired dozens of people, all of whom were involved in union efforts. A British union calls it "blatant and ruthless" union-busting. Take-Two Interactive says it was due to misconduct.

Here's the scoop: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Union says 30 and 40 people were terminated. Rockstar Games’ parent company cites ‘gross misconduct’

This really is a shame.

In times like these we really should be commissioning more engaging, informative evidence-based shows, not fewer.
For 61 years the #BBCWorldService has been broadcasting the latest in science via its weekly Science in Action programme. That dies in the next half hour, with this final edition, reflecting on the fall in trust in expertise driven by malign interests over recent years.

A YES vote strengthens the hand of your elected negotiators and your union in the face of a set of employers making massive cuts in pay and jobs.

Not going to pretend Tolkien isn’t flawed but this thread is bang on. Tolkien couldn’t be more explicit that the Hard Men of Gondor are *doomed to fail* no matter how Tough they are. The victory against evil is brought about by pity.
Tolkien fought in the Battle of the Somme. He saw the horrors of war, and the moments of bravery and fear within it up close.

And after all that. ALL that. He wrote Lord of the Rings. He declared true bravery and masculinity to be love, friendship and humbleness.

Musk is everything he hated.

Cats really are the most insane creatures. They're true apex predators in a body the size of your calf, they have night vision, agile, fast, jaws strong enough to break bones, have a purr that can help heal bones. And to top it off, they can survive a fall at terminal velocity.

📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

It’s POTS awareness day—a blood flow problem common after Covid.

POTS can be subtle—I often wonder how many people who feel rundown, anxious or distracted have this treatable condition.

Main criteria is heart rate going up >30bpm when going from laying down to standing—smthg you can check at home!
