We ALL (Americans inlcuded) need to consume less news / context from the States now.

Most BlueSky users are American. But the Pax Americana we all grew up in is DEAD💔. World outside the US is moving on (towards grave danger), utterly unable to help with what US guys have on their plate👀 now.

Reading that while from Kyiv with no light, no heat, no warm water and working with a hot bottle on my lap from under my duvet so yes, I will indeed point out that Ukrainians are going through hell than marvelling at their resilience.

❄️ Temperature outside is -15°C...
The narrative of exceptional Ukrainian resilience is one of the most harmful tropes I’ve seen during this war.

Yes, we refuse to give up. Yes, we have picnics in -15°C. Yes, we keep living, drinking coffee, and even laughing occasionally, but all of this stems from a lack of choice.

Forcibly annexing Greenland would be a strategic catastrophe—for Europe, for Canada, and perhaps most especially for the United States itself.

My latest in @foreignpolicy.com on how we're all sleep-walking into a disaster: foreignpolicy.com/2026/01/06/g...
Annexing Greenland Would Be a Strategic Catastrophe
Any attempt by the United States to claim the island would quickly spiral out of control.

Every American who still thinks they can walk in the world like “yeah, it’s a bit mad, but don’t blame me for it” needs to understand that our internal self-delineation ends at the border, and what allies, adversaries, and indifferent nations see is America doing this, an America in rapid decline

The whole of Ukraine may switch to a new, harsher schedule of power outages where each househould would go without grid electricity for at least 16 HOURS A DAY😣, and this would still be an improvement compared to the current unscheduled situation - a top energy CEO's X post this evening.

Putin almost has Americans fighting Americans in America.

War wording is already being WIDELY, casually used by both sides in the domestic US discourse.
BRENNAN: You said 'occupying force.' Don't you think that's a bit much?

FREY: When you have 3,000 ICE agents and CBP come to your city, when you've got this supposed threat of 1,500 military coming to your city, that's very much what it feels like

The Spanish PM who has been advocating against🤯 NATO's GDP 2% defense spending minimum (US and China spend 5+%, Ukraine and Russia 30+%‼️) now mouth-farts something about "Spain's pivotal role" and "moral rearmament".🙃

I can't tell if he's a troll or a moron elected by morons...
Spanish PM Pedro Sánchez:

I believe that in this moral rearmament Europe is undergoing,in standing as the standard-bearer of international law,Spain is playing a leading&pivotal role, because we’ve not accepted double standards when we talk about Gaza,Ukraine,Greenland,or Venezuela.

Watching EU public reacting to Trump's Greenland onslaught is painful and frustrating.

Vast majority are clueless about what's at stake, why is this happening and what EU states' leaders will likely do vs. what they should do vs. what public wants them to do.

Russia's special envoy to US celebrates the "NATO collapse" after Trump's fresh tariffs threat regarding Greenland.

He's not wrong. And he knows what's at stake: with the US military on the NATO's side, Russia wouldn't last A WEEK in a kinetic armed conflict with NATO.
