Welcome!

Will be at both places for a while.

Sane adults need choice and B plans. Monopoly is bad. Monopoly of a drug addict treasonous oligarch is a danger to us all.

Absolutely.

I posted repeatedly on how Putin has been smashing his dedicated, elite Arctic units onto Ukraine.
If the US is genuinely worried about a Russian threat in the Arctic then the best way to address it would be to destroy Russia's capacity for military aggression by helping Ukraine to win.

Absolutely NOT(

The world, at this era of big wars, wants, or wanted until very recently, an America: a Good Guy With Superior Firepower, a democratic rule-of-law nuclear military superpower.

Canada is so far a military pigmy weaker than Ukraine and actively refusing to grow.
Canada has what the world wants — and in this era of profound change, we’re a strong, reliable partner with ambition to build.

At the World Economic Forum, I met with business leaders from across sectors and nations who want to build with us.

Important context of Ukraine's battle to survive the winter under Russian terror strikes: 20 years ago this week, the country had a REHEARSAL of sorts.

The city of Alchevsk had suffered a district heating failure and was rescued by a nationwide effort involving some of the men saving Kyiv TODAY.

While obviously Trump backing down is a good thing, there will be two frustrating immediate consequences: 1) he will be praised for doing so despite having caused so much unrest and disruption and 2) the lesson he will learn is treat allies shabbily and you get what you want

I cannot tell you how absolutely infuriatingly this stuff comes across to Europeans.

When we say America is no longer a reliable ally, it goes considerably deeper than Donald Trump himself. This kind of complacent, condescending shit is a *huge* part of it.

Two very different men who fell in the battle to keep Ukrainians warm today:

A yet unnamed 60 y.o. plumber with a Kyiv municipal housing company.

Oleksiy Brekht, a board member and ex-CEO of the UA electricity grid operator, was personally overseeing high-voltage repairs at a substation.

For accuracy's sake, not all of the thousands of Kyiv apartments going without heating are frozen to the point of people dying OF COLD.

People in older smaller buildings survive by heating with their kitchen gas stoves. Which, in this deep frost weather, requires hyperactive DANGEROUS routines(
The heating situation in #Kyiv is critical
-4,200 apartment buildings are currently without heating,it will take weeks to restore heating in some of them. That is,provided there are no new strikes

Russia is torturing the civilian population in an attempt to render Kyiv uninhabitable

On the bright side of things, some major problems of today's civilized societies will just vanish with little effort.

The pandemic of loneliness, the decline of family, the information overload and some others are NO MORE because they're incompatible with the new security and economic reality.
