It's #InternationalTrafficLightDay.
romanpalace.bsky.social
Denmark have installed these traffic lights to celebrate their Viking connections, and we've never wanted to be Danish more.
The green light of some traffic lights, but instead of the traditional "green man" walking across the road, this green man is wearing a Viking hat, and carrying a shield and axe, all Viking-like. The red light of some traffic lights, but instead of the traditional "red man" standing to attention, this red man is standing to attention, defiantly, wearing a Viking hat, and carrying a shield and axe, all Viking-like

Today I start my research trip sailing down the River Seine from Paris to Honfleur (via a few stops) in a reconstruction of the Klåstad cargo ship built in 998. It’s the penultimate stage in the ship’s journey from Rome to London throughout the summer. I’ll post updates as we go #Saga25 #MedievalSky

Burrow Mump

The York Helmet was discovered by mechanical digger operator Andy Shaw during work at 16-22 Coppergate #OTD in 1982. The C8th Anglian helmet is made of iron and copper alloy, and bears a Latin Christian inscription mentioning Oshere, presumably its owner. 📸York Museums Trust #medievalsky

Ceolfrith was appointed abbot of Wiremutha-Gyruum (Wearmouth-Jarrow) #OTD in 688. He remained in office until 716, when he resigned to go on pilgrimage to Rome. The Codex Amiatinus was produced during his abbacy. Hwaetberht succeeded him. 📸Remi Mathis #medievalsky

The Battle of Edington, fought in May 878 CE, was a decisive moment in #EnglishHistory.  King #AlfredtheGreat, who was once forced to flee to the treacherous #Somerset marshes, defeated the #Viking leader Guthrum in battle. Read the full article here: https://whe.to/ci/2-2691-en/
Image of a statue of the bearded, crowned King Alfred, holding a sword aloft in his right hand and a shield in his left. The statue is set in front of a backdrop of a blue sky. An old Medieval artwork depicting a group of Viking men firing arrows at a man tied to a tree. The man tied to the tree looks up to the sky in pain.

A #Roman samian ware bowl depicting a rabbit eating dandelion.

Found in Eschenz/Switzerland.

Photo: AATG, Daniel Steiner
Close-up detail of a Samian ware pottery vessel showing a raised relief of a rabbit or hare crouched in profile, facing left. The animal appears to be nibbling on a dandelion, with its long ears upright and front paws extended. The reddish-brown surface of the pottery is smooth and glossy, with a central vertical crack running through the image. Decorative arches and floral motifs frame the scene.

Wrong, wrong, and wrong. Just some basic fact-checking would be nice.
