![In this picture there are 3 origami-folded Moravian or Herrnhut stars - one large purple, and two smaller white ones. The largest is about 8” across, and the smaller about 5”.
They are 3-dimensional with 16 points.
They sit on a wooden floor in front of a glass door to the outside. Leafless trees can be seen in the background.
Nearly 200 years ago in Saxony, Germany, a math teacher in a Moravian school created a star for his students to demonstrate geometric principles.
That star went on to be known as the Moravian star, and today is hung in homes across Europe, during Advent, Christmas and Epiphany.
These softly glowing stars in windows or hung from eaves, porches, and balconies, can represent different things to each of us. In the mid-winter celebration of light, the star can be a comforting reminder of brighter days to come.

As such, the Christmas season has become a bit of a decorative non-event, but last year in Dresden we kept seeing hundreds of these multi-pointed stars hanging from balconies, trees, doorways, bell-towers, and I got to thinking - I wonder if there’s an instruction book? I have experimented with alcohol inks. They are difficult to control. I'm impressed with what this artists has managed to achieve with them!
Go see my friend Nicole at the Cochrane Farmer's Market this weekend, for her gorgeous and incredibly vibrant alcohol ink originals! We've got 3 of her pieces in our house 😊.

I have experimented with alcohol inks. They are difficult to control. I'm impressed with what this artists has managed to achieve with them!
I love the style of modern quilts with their solid fabrics. This one has a beautiful selection of colours.

One of my all-time favourite creations. It's one of the few times I managed to move away from intense colours. And it's the second-largest painting I've ever made.
It's called "Lifting the Weight Off". Oil on Canvas. 36 x 24 inches, I think.

Day 7 of the #ArtAdventCalendar. An edible entry this time around. These are vanilla cupcakes with American buttercream that I made for my sister’s birthday in April. I don’t do decorative piping often, but when I do, it’s always nice to challenge myself and these were fun.

What an idyllic looking spot!

Oil on canvas. 14 x 18 inches. I called this "Georgia Strait at Dusk".
Georgia Strait is between Vancouver Island and the mainland here in BC. A short walk from my home, and down a tall set of stairs, takes me to a rocky beach that looks over the strait.
